Pacific National (PN) is the largest private provider of diversified rail freight services in Australia. We haul a variety of freight including coal, intermodal containers, steel, and a range of bulk commodities and materials that keep the region’s economy, businesses and households running.

An Opportunity has presented itself for a Senior Cloud Engineer to join our dynamic IT Infrastructure team and be an integral part of the charge in developing our Azure environment and influence our continual movement from on-premises to Cloud. In this role, you will apply your expertise to ensure the security, stability, and high performance of our critical applications and services.

Reporting to the IT Infrastructure Manager, the Senior Cloud Engineer will manage and engineer Pacific National’s cloud environment, and lead and manage the lifecycle of cloud engineering projects.

Key Responsibilities will include:

  • Provide technology leadership in the Cloud Engineering Space.
  • Support the Pacific National IT Infrastructure environment.
  • Manage the end-to-end life cycle of Cloud Engineering projects. These projects not only require the maintenance of our existing environment but also include a need to improve and adjust our environment to meet the technology needs of our business.
  • Cloud Administration: Administer, configure, and maintain cloud services and applications, including Microsoft 365 (M365) and Azure. Create and manage user accounts, groups, and permissions in cloud environments. Implement and manage policies, access controls, and resource optimization in the cloud.
  • Azure Cloud Management: Configure and manage Azure resources, virtual machines, and networks. Optimise cloud infrastructure. Monitor and troubleshoot Azure services and applications.
  • Networking: Ensure seamless connectivity and optimize network configurations for cloud services. Collaborate with the network team to troubleshoot and resolve network-related issues affecting cloud services.

To be successful in this role you will have 3 or more years’ experience in an enterprise IT setting, you will bring a deep knowledge of Azure services combined with a history of on-premise Microsoft and VMware support. You will have proficiency in Azure DevOps and be a proactive problem-solver, an adaptable team player and comfortable taking ownership in a fast-paced environment. A tertiary qualification in Computer Science or related field and Azure or Microsoft certifications will be highly regarded.
