Commercial Optimisation Principal 

• Permanent FT Role – Brisbane, Sydney or Newcastle  
• Commercially focused thinker with expertise in data analysis, reporting, and cross-functional collaboration.

Pacific National (PN) is the largest private provider of diversified rail freight services in Australia. We haul a variety of freight including coal, intermodal containers, steel, and a range of bulk commodities and materials that keep the region’s economy, businesses and households running.  

About the role  

Your key responsibilities will include: 

• Data & Analysis and Reporting - Focus on transforming data into actionable insights, driving commercial decision-making, and supporting business strategy to enhance both financial performance and customer experience. 
• Commercial Excellence - Contribute data-driven insights to Pacific National’s commercial strategy by leading key data analytics and reporting projects in collaboration with our Sales and Commercial Solutions teams. 
• Management Advisory - Partner with senior management to identify and solve commercially- focused challenges for our business and our customers.  

To be successful in this role you will be able to demonstrate: 

• Strong knowledge of and experience with reporting packages, databases (SQL), programming (e.g. Python, R, or Java Script) 
• Knowledge of statistics and experience using statistical packages for analysing datasets (Excel, SSS, SAS etc) 
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyse, and disseminate information with attention to detail and accuracy 
• Tertiary qualifications in Mathematics, Economics, Computer Science, Information Management or a related field would be highly regarded 
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills
