Policy Advisor – Office of the Lord Mayor of Brisbane/Civic Cabinet

This is an exciting opportunity to work with the Lord Mayor of Brisbane’s team as a Policy Advisor.

Brisbane City Council is the largest local government in Australia with an annual budget of about $4 billion.

The Lord Mayor sets the strategic direction for Brisbane and this is delivered by Councillors who are members of the Establishment and Coordination Committee, also known as Civic Cabinet.

Chairs of Civic Cabinet cover a range of portfolios, including the Economic Development, Nighttime Economy and the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, Infrastructure, Transport, Planning, Environment and Community Services.

We work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment where we engage with internal and external stakeholders on issues, policies and projects that are priorities of the administration.

As a Policy Advisor, you will be responsible for providing research and strategic advice on a range of issues to a Civic Cabinet Chair and Lord Mayor. Your accountabilities include preparing briefings on issues, high-quality talking points and speeches, often under tight deadlines. You will also be a key liaison between the Lord Mayor’s Office, Councillors and Council Officers.

The successful candidate will be expected to develop and maintain professional relationships with senior internal and external stakeholders to develop and implement projects and policies. Strong communication skills are key to this role, as is the ability to conduct research and evaluate information to provide strategic guidance. You will be required to work autonomously and as part of a team to ensure the completion of projects and individual responsibilities by the required deadlines.

An attractive salary and remuneration package will be offered, commensurate with your skills, experience and qualifications. While there are no mandatory requirements for this role, tertiary qualifications are highly desired.

This role will require a Criminal History Check.
