Transport Operations is all about keeping Brisbane moving, whether it’s our road network, travelling on buses or trains, or cycling along one of our many bikeways and shared pathways. Transport Operations play a lead role in planning and maintaining Council's transport network and implementing the Transport Plan for Brisbane.
About the role
A permanent opportunity is currently available at our brand-new Rochedale Depot that is the home to Brisbane Metro - Brisbane’s Bus Rapid Transit service. Rochedale is a brand new start of the art depot and the team are looking for a qualified Auto Electrician to join a multi-skilled team and efficiently undertake maintenance, repair, service and of the new Metro Vehicles and other equipment and machinery with respect to their electrical componentry. This may include electrical wiring of motors, generators, PLC’s and other electrical controls and control units, instruments and some aspects of air conditioning.
You will work effectively with diagnostic and tech tools to ensure that our heavy vehicles are operational and meet and maintain the required safety standards to keep our city moving.
In addition, Transport Operations has a regular intake of apprentices throughout the year and you will be required to assist, guide and supervise apprentices in learning their trade where required.
This role operates Monday to Friday to complete a 38 hour week with a 9-day fortnight arrangement. Initially you will be working from 5am – 2pm with the possibility of moving to an afternoon shift, with its associated shift allowances and benefits.
There is also an abundance of overtime presently, for those keen to further increase their income.
To be successful in the role you will have:
- technical knowledge and experience in general maintenance and repairs of heavy vehicle electrical mechanics
- proven ability to cost-effectively and efficiently plan, organise and perform work relevant to the role to a high standard of quality.
- proven experience in diagnostics, fault finding and correction in electrical system componentry, and planned electrical maintenance and servicing of buses and other equipment
- well developed communication skills and experience guiding, assisting or supervising trades assistants, apprentices and contractors
- proven ability to work autonomously and in multidisciplinary teams
- possession of a Trade Certificate Level III in Automotive Electrical Technology (AUR30312) or Equivalent
- possession of, or the ability to obtain, an HR licence.
Desirable
- demonstrated experience working with heavy vehicles or buses.
Note: Australian citizens or permanent resident's of Australia are eligible to apply to this role.
This role requires a ‘C’ Class Drivers Licence and Criminal History Check for preferred candidates and the ability to get a HR drivers license.
