The Compliance and Regulatory Services Branch contributes to the health, safety and amenity of Brisbane through a range of licensing and best practice regulatory services. These services are related to environmental health, land use and built environment, animal management, asset use and the natural environment, to maintain the liveability, vibrancy and accessibility of Brisbane.
The Environmental Management team (EMT) is focused on protecting Brisbane’s natural environment from harm through compliance regulation across the city. EMT includes;
- investigating offences relating to vegetation of native and exotic vegetation including trees, shrubs, groundcovers and grasses;
- promoting industry best practice (IECA 2009) erosion and sediment standards within the building and construction industry in Brisbane; and
- carrying out pest plant and animal management City-wide.
Your role will be regulating compliance to environmental legislation and policies involving; Natural Assets Local Law 2003, Environmental Protection Act 1994, and the Biosecurity Act 2014.
Day-to-day, your duties can involve assessing and managing incoming submissions and protected vegetation applications, conducting property surveys, assessing compliance matters which may involve interference with protected vegetation, hazardous vegetation management, erosion and sediment control and management of pest plants and animals.
These diverse roles involve community engagement with a wide range of stakeholders and the provision of high-level customer service, advice and guidance to a wide range of environmental matters.
To be considered for either the Band 4 or 5 positions you will have:
- the ability to interpret and ensure compliance with relevant legislation, policies, guidelines and standards
- strong customer service, negotiation and liaison skills
- demonstrate good interpersonal, written and oral communication skills
- well-developed organisation and time management skills to meet deadlines
- effective conflict resolution and problem-solving skills
- the ability to work autonomously in a high-performing multi-disciplinary team.
- Desirable - tertiary qualification in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Environmental Planning or related discipline.
To be considered for a Band 5 Senior Natural Environment Officer position, you will bring extensive experience, demonstrating the ability to work independently while also coaching and mentoring less experienced team members.
The positions involve participation in an on-call roster, along with reasonable after-hours duties and overtime, as required to support business operations and respond to disaster events.
This role will require a criminal history check and valid ‘C’ Class Drivers licence.
