Our school 

The School of Information and Physical Sciences (SIPS) accommodates the disciplines of Mathematics, Data Science and Statistics, Computing and Information Technology, and Physics. The vision of SIPS is aligned with the University's strategic plan "Looking Ahead" and aims to provide a transformative, modern and relevant learning experience where students acquire practical skills, leading to work and life-ready graduates. The School of Information and Physical Sciences is seeking to appoint a Lecturer to our Data Science and Statistics team. Our academic members are highly research active, contributing substantially to the overall research inputs and outputs of the School and College. This is reflected in the 2018 Excellence in Research in Australia outcomes where several areas of activity at the School, including Applied Mathematics and Statistics, were both top ranked.

The successful candidate will work in a dynamic and engaging environment to enable the School to excel in higher education teaching and research. In this role, you will have the opportunity to develop international recognition as an innovator in new Statistical methodologies, within the application field of data analysis, and will be comfortable with the development of new theoretical advances.

 

How will you inspire us

The successful candidate will develop high quality research and deliver excellent teaching in key areas within the Data Science, Statistics, and Computer Science program areas. Candidates with a strong background and ability to teach into statistics courses would be viewed favourably.

The essential skills required for this role are:

  • A PhD in Data Science, Statistics, or equivalent relevant field.
  • A strong publication record relative to opportunity.
  • Ability to be a highly effective teacher in a tertiary environment, preferably with experience in teaching Data Science and Statistics related courses at the University level.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise research students at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct impactful research to attract both industry and government research funding.
  • Expertise or experience in the development and delivery of online and blended courses.
  • Willingness and ability to contribute to outreach activities, governance, organisational administration (including course coordination) and initiative/activities within the University.
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills including the ability to participate in a team environment demonstrating clear communication and mutual respect.
