The Marketing Specialist provides specialist advice to stakeholders on marketing projects and initiatives aligned to the University’s strategic objectives. This role leads, advises and supports Divisional stakeholders in projects to build the reputation of the University of Newcastle and to engage with a wide range of audiences, including staff, students, alumni, donors, industry partners, community, and employers. This role is also responsible for brand stewardship, ensuring that Divisional stakeholders present the brand in a consistent way that adheres to the University’s guidelines and brand architecture. 

This includes:

  • Working in consultation with Divisional leadership and Head of Brand, Reputation and Product, to develop an annual plan to support Divisions on strategic marketing projects and initiatives.
  • Utilising your professional knowledge and experience to advise, support and guide Divisional stakeholders on marketing and communications best practices.
  • Reviewing, analysing and reporting on market insights and performance to demonstrate key marketing and communications objectives for Divisions are achieved.
  • Providing brand advice and guidance to ensure that Divisional stakeholders present the brand in a consistent way that adheres to the University’s guidelines and brand architecture.
  • Guiding and mentoring the Marketing Coordinator to support the Divisions on the development and delivery of strategic marketing and communications projects.
  • Collaborating with teams across Future Students Communications and Engagement, including media, corporate communications, creative, web and future students to support the Divisions on the development and delivery of strategic marketing projects and initiatives.

 This continuing position is full time at a HEW 7 Higher Education Level and will be based at Callaghan Campus (Awabakal and Worimi land).

About the Unit

Future Students, Communications & Engagement (FSCE) forms part of the Global Engagement and Partnerships Division at the University of Newcastle. Under the guidance of the University’s Looking Ahead Strategic Plan, FSCE leads domestic student recruitment and marketing strategies and international recruitment marketing, drives engagement and storytelling to build the University’s brand and manage its reputation, and helps nurture a sense of pride amongst the University’s community.

  1. A degree with at least 4 years relevant experience; or extensive experience in marketing, student recruitment or communications; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
  2. Demonstrated experience leading the development and implementation of brand and marketing campaigns and presenting reports to management on campaign success against organisational objectives.
  3. Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills including the capacity to build relationships and an inter-disciplinary way of working.
  4. High level project management skills and demonstrated ability of flexibility in managing a range of projects with competing priorities, deadlines and stakeholder demands.
  5. Demonstrated leadership capability including the ability to lead/inspire professional staff to deliver exceptional performance/outcomes.
