The Engineering function houses the capabilities and roles necessary to develop the Digital ecosystem platform which includes front-end, back-end, cloud and platform capabilities embedded throughout. The specific skillsets will vary based on the technology and the tech being used, as well as how it aligns to the cross-functional teams. Engineering is responsible for establishing engineering practices within the Digital Ecosystem.

What you’ll be doing

he Principal Engineer – Backend & Core Systems Integration will be leading a cross-functional workstream in engineering practices, and providing technical leadership in key functional areas – backend and core systems integration – ensuring the OnePass product platforms developed are secure, accessible, easy to use, scalable, cost efficient and aligned to the Digital Ecosystem vision and customer value proposition.

Key duties and deliverables:

  • Applying your functional expertise to test the viability of the strategy, policies and processes and to provide insights to inform and determine key decisions, along with the rest of the team and the Head of Engineering on the development of the platform
  • Motivates others through articulating a compelling vision and strategy, helps teams understand how their contributions make a positive difference and support customer missions
  • Eliminate blockers both internal and external to the team to help meet their goals
  • Be responsible for the team’s wellbeing and engagement including career sponsorship
  • Driving best practices in backend and core systems integration engineering, ensuring consistency, performance, and maintainability across our product portfolio.
  • Spearheading the implementation of cost effective, secure and scalable SaaS core system integration patterns and solutions.
  • Optimizing our backend engineering processes to maximize efficiency and velocity.
  • Identifying and advocating for new technologies, libraries, and tools that can enhance our product engineering capabilities.
  • Scaling your technical expertise by training, mentoring, and uplifting the skills of more junior engineers.
  • Balancing team workloads and delivery expectations to enable predictable, sustainable product development.
  • Championing a culture of quality, innovation, and continuous improvement within the engineering organization.

What you'll bring to the table

  • Experience having led, mentored or developed a team of software engineers
  • Proven experience with designing and building consumer facing and/or enterprise platforms at scale
  • Experience with complex event driven architectures
  • Solid exposure to CICD and AWS ecosystems
  • Active listening skills and empathy towards team members
  • Ability to effectively communicate concerns when things don’t feel “right”
  • Aptness to work with change and uncertainty addressing team’s concerns as needed
  • Demonstrated success working with agile and Lean methodologies
