The Wesfarmers’ Retail Media Network within OneDigital aims to leverage the power of its iconic brands—Bunnings, Officeworks, and Wesfarmers Health—to provide advertisers with unparalleled access to millions of engaged shoppers across Australia. Using rich first-party data, the network will deliver highly targeted, measurable advertising opportunities across digital platforms, in-store experiences, and e-commerce sites. What you’ll be doing
The Head of Commercial Finance plays a critical role in the business to support strong commercial decision-making through trade analysis and insights, working with divisional partners to understand performance, influencing business cases and key projects, and providing input into strategic decision-making. This role will establish, manage and own the P&L for the Group Retail Media Network, sitting across Wesfarmers Group.
Strategic Planning
- Manage and support the end-to-end planning process for the business’ strategic planning process, including budgeting.
- Leverage outstanding communication and engagement skills to critique and challenge strategy.
- Present financial forecasts and strategy plans in high-quality documents appropriate for board consumption; including divisional MD’s and Wesfarmers CFO.
- Develop, using sophisticated modelling skills, the company-wide forecast model and end-to-end Group impact, which can be used to develop the 5-year plan, budget and rolling monthly forecast.
- Implement the agreed commercial model across OneDigital and the Divisions
- Provide commercial assessment of new business opportunities and key projects, including working with key stakeholders to source and test assumptions, developing robust commercial recommendations, and presentation of outputs to relevant stakeholders. This will be supported with the Strategy Team.
- Responsible for the provision of commercial analysis and insight to identify value creation opportunities and risks, guide commercial decision-making, and support the business’ growth trajectory.
Commercial Discipline & Decision Support
- Work with internal and divisional stakeholders to ensure success measures are agreed, targets are set, and insight and relevant reporting is in place.
- Drive a strong culture and cadence of commerciality, including ensuring that a clear investment approval and appraisal framework is embedded in the business.
- Work with functional teams to develop financial modelling and business cases to support key strategic and operational decisions, as well as PIRs post completion of initiatives.
- Work with divisional teams to align on key metrics and the end-to-end commercial impact. Ensure the divisional commercial impact is understood and incorporated into internal decision making.
- Provide commercial decision support to all functions in OneDigital.
- Challenge key assumptions and identify key value drivers.
- Prepare written business cases.
- Present recommendations to executive team including the Managing Director OneDigital and senior stakeholders across Wesfarmers Group.
Business Partnering
- Own the relationship with divisional finance stakeholders, including an understanding of program value drivers and working with internal stakeholders and divisional partners to create value.
- Adhoc analysis and support as required including development of business cases for business opportunities including the provision of commercial and financial input and presentation to the relevant stakeholders as required.
- Preparation of funding requests and monitoring of project costs
What you'll bring to the table
- 10+ years’ experience in commercial analysis, corporate finance, M&A and/or business development roles
- Proven experience in a senior level finance or strategy role, preferably within the retail media or advertising industry.
- Strong background in media and/or advertising, with a deep understanding of industry dynamics and market trends.
- Experience in a start-up environment desirable
- Outstanding communication, engagement, and project management skills comfortable operating at the most senior levels in an organisation.
- Very strong written skills; comfortable preparing board quality documentation in PowerPoint and Word.
- Experience presenting up to board level.
- Strong numeracy and operational/financial modelling skills. High level of accuracy and attentional to detail.
- Ability to tell a story with insightful commentary, analysis, charts and visual graphics.
- Demonstrated ability to operate as a team member and independently to achieve identified goals.
- Strategic / commercial mindset.
- Highly driven and results focused, takes on accountability for outcomes.
- Ability to challenge the status quo in a collaborative and engaging way.
