Join the University of Newcastle's passionate L&D team as a Senior Specialist, shaping leadership and development with innovative, impactful strategies.
Reporting to the Senior Manager Learning and Development, you will collaborate with stakeholders across the University to conduct Training Needs Analyses (TNA) and lead the design and delivery of diverse training and development programs.
Key areas of focus include developing leadership capability, developing and embedding change management skills, developing and delivering targeted team specific learning events and providing strategically aligned professional development opportunities for all employees.

Key responsibilities include;
- Lead the design and implementation of impactful learning initiatives.
- Conduct organisational-wide training needs analyses.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with leaders, professional and academic staff, assessing their development needs and providing tailored learning solutions.
- Utilise project management tools to deliver large-scale learning and development programs.
- Oversee and track staff learning through the Learning Management System (LMS), ensuring accurate records are maintained.

The L&D Team
The Learning and Development Team’s primary goal is to enhance organisational capability, boost employee performance and achieve organisational goals through the effective design and delivery of quality learning programs. We are driving a culture of continuous improvement and learning through our strategic L&D initiatives, progressive operational practices, and a people-focused approach.
The Learning and Development Team is part of the broader Human Resource Services (HRS) unit, which also includes other specialist teams such as Employee Experience, Talent Acquisition, HR Advisory Support, Remuneration and Benefits, Wellbeing, Health & Safety, and Employee Relations.
About You
With qualifications and/or equivalent experience in Learning and Development/HR, you will demonstrate:
- Ability to design, develop and deliver innovative and current learning solutions that align with strategic goals and use data to drive program improvements.
- Ability to develop meaningful relationships, engage with stakeholders at all levels and plan, manage and execute large-scale learning and development initiatives.
- Knowledge and relevant experience in utilising Learning Management Systems (LMS) and eLearning platforms to enhance the effectiveness of training programs, including tracking and evaluating learning outcomes.
Additionally, the following are desirable:
- Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40122).
- Diploma of Training Design and Development (TAE50216).
- Certification or accreditation with tools such as Prosci®, HBDI®, CliftonStrengths®, or DiSC®.
- Experience working in the higher education sector or within a large organisation.
What We Offer
The remuneration for this position ranges from $116,596 to $136,030 + 17% superannuation, commensurate with skills and experience.
