Make an impact at Serco

As an AOD Nurse Practitioner at Acacia Prison, you will play a critical role in delivering specialised healthcare services to approximately 1,350 inmates, focusing on those affected by alcohol and other drugs. You will lead with clinical expertise, provide strategic guidance, and assess both internal and external factors to ensure our services meet the evolving needs of our patients.

This is a chance to join a large, dedicated team of health professionals who are passionate, supportive, and united by a commitment to excellence. At Serco, we pride ourselves on our collaborative, results-driven approach, and we’re looking for someone who shares our dedication to making a meaningful impact.

As an AOD Nurse Practitioner in our healthcare team, you’ll make a positive impact by:

  • Conducting comprehensive risk assessments, providing information, and offering support for patients with AOD dependencies or related concerns
  • Offering guidance and orientation to new staff members, ensuring they are well-prepared to deliver quality care in a correctional environment
  • Assisting in the management of projects, participating in quality improvements, and contributing to the development of relevant policies and protocols
  • Regularly reviewing individual patient records and clinical documentation to ensure accuracy and compliance
  • Managing change proactively in dynamic and unpredictable patient situations, and working effectively within the constraints of a correctional facility with increasing patient acuity

Serco is a place for you

You are a compassionate and resilient Nurse Practitioner with a strong commitment to delivering high-quality care in the AOD space. You excel in adapting to challenging environments, working effectively within a multidisciplinary team, and maintaining professional integrity. You have a passion for ongoing learning and demonstrate a dedication to ethical standards and evidence-based practice.

To be successful in this role, you’ll have:

  • Current Registration: Eligibility for registration as a Nurse Practitioner with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  • Advanced Clinical Expertise: Proven skills in clinical assessment, care planning, and managing complex needs of patients, particularly within a correctional or forensic AOD setting.
  • Collaboration and Leadership: Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team and provide mentorship and leadership to colleagues.
  • Ethical Conduct and Professional Standards: Adherence to the NMBA code of ethics, maintaining high professional standards, and compliance with Acacia Prison’s code of conduct and policies.
  • Problem-Solving and Adaptability: Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to manage change effectively in unpredictable or challenging situations.
  • Effective Communication: Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, essential for engaging with patients and colleagues.

You do not need to match every listed expectation to apply for this position. If you believe you have the skills and passion for this role, we’d love to hear from you.
