We are currently seeking a Camp Maintenance Supervisor to join our team, permanent full-time position at our Simberi Operation. Your work location is Papua New Guinea, working a 15/13 Roster fromKavieng/Rabaul/PortMoresby/Lae/MtHagen/Buka/Madang/Goroka/Alotau/Wapenamanda/Popondetta/Hoskins/ Vanimo/ Wewak or Tabar group of Islands. (Locals are encouraged to apply).
Reporting to the Projects & Services Superintendent.
The Camp Maintenance Supervisor supports and Leads and Supervise the Simberi Camp Maintenance Team for the safe and effective maintenance of the Simberi camp assets and air conditioning units across site.
The opportunity
Technical accountabilities
- Promoting safety to employees in all aspect of maintenance, apply and manage risk management.
- Immediately reporting and investigating incidents, ensure that all workers are familiar with emergency and evacuation procedures and the location of first aid kits, personnel and emergency equipment, and if appropriately trained, the use of emergency equipment.
- Develop and implement a safe system of work that supports the safe execution of maintenance activity within the camps maintenance function. Including but not limited to;
a. Completing Job Safety Analysis
b. Risk Assessments and field Level risk assessments
c. Management of Change
d. Root Cause Analysis (RCA)
- Ensure all infrastructure, systems, plant and building at camp and site where applicable are maintained to the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) standards and provided ‘fit for purpose’ to the mining operations teams for safe and efficient use in achieving the overarching business plan for Simberi
- Mentor and coach the teams to effectively complete assigned tasks as prescribed
- Ensure that all servicing and repairs are carried out to high standard and in a timely manner
- Co-ordinate all maintenance, servicing and repair activities in line with agreed work management process (Maintenance Plans and Schedules) to optimise effective utilisation of resources
- Monitor Camp Maintenance Team performance and ensure any areas of reduced performance are managed accordingly.
- Maintain job planning boards and regularly monitor performance to meet stake holder expectations.
- Adopt and facilitate a continuous improvement process which supports improvement in efficiencies.
- Conduct daily pre-start meetings, coordinate trades, and ensure that Safe Work Procedures and Practices are reviewed for all high works conducted on site each day.
- Effectively conduct regular site safety inspections which entail a formal walk-around of the entire site(s) to identify potential risks and hazards and implement appropriate mitigation measures.
- Scope materials required for specific tasks and work packages.
- Evaluate and supervise building, plumbing, refrigeration mechanics and trades assistant staff, assign work tasks, and train new employees
- Address complaints from residents and regulars within the camp and make appropriate decisions to resolve these complaints as they arise.
- Manage all emergency situations and ensure that emergency procedures are correctly followed when the incidence occur.
Scheduling accountabilities
- Managing effective use of available resources, including own time, in support of the delivery of the team/crew.
- Ensuring the Simberi Camp Maintenance Team develops and uses effective schedules and plans to complete tasks as forecasted and or budgeted.
- Ensure work management backlog is managed effectively.
- Ensure all works are scoped and planned to a high standard
People accountabilities
- Contributing to an effective team/crew
- Ensuring own work performance meets all role requirements; and taking appropriate professional development actions for the team.
- Lead, coach and develop team members by setting clear expectations, monitoring performance and mentoring others
- Managing performance issues in accordance with “Guidelines For Various Transgressions – SGCL – HR – GUD-001”

Essential
- Behaviour consistent with St Barbara’s Values.
- Trade certificate and relevant Experience in Building Construction or maintenance in the Oil, Mining & Gas Industry.
- Significant experience in leading a camp maintenance team
- Significant experience as a Tradesperson or experience in a similar role within a mining environment.
- Advanced PC skills and computer literacy (MS Excel & Word) including professional use of email.
- Able to use CMMS system Pronto for work planning and scheduling requirements
- Highly organized professional who can manage people and problems, know how to prioritize tasks, and work under pressure.
- Strong communication skills, including communicating with people from different backgrounds and cultures, high level of compliance, excellent work ethics and can work effectively under minimal supervision.
- Advanced Carpentry and Building knowledge in assessing maintenance and repair needs and perform building maintenance and repair tasks.
- Ability to read building specifications, blueprints, and build or construct.
- Knowledge of safe operation of basic hand and power tools.
- Understanding of maintaining plumbing systems.
- Understanding of refrigeration mechanic tasks.
- Advanced understanding of plumbing
- A valid PNG Driver’s License
