The Role
Reporting to the Maintenance Foreman; Plant Instrumentation Technician is responsible for the maintenance and repair of all Electrical/Instrumentation systems and equipment of the Process Plant with primary focus on safety, environment, development and production to provide and achieve processing objectives and targets in a safe and timely manner.

This is a FIFO position; the roster is a 15/13 roster. Point of Hire is restricted to Kavieng/Rabaul/Port Moresby/Lae/Mt Hagen/Buka/Madang/Goroka/Alotau/Wapenamanda/Popondetta/ Hoskins or Tabar group of Islands. (Locals are encouraged to apply)
Key responsibilities include:
Functional Planning/Scheduling
- Responsible for performing corrective activities and recording Electrical/Instrumentation maintenance activities and subsequent technical reporting as required.
- Install, maintains, repairs, overhauls, calibrates and tests a wide variety of industrial instrumentation that record, indicate, control and regulate level, flow, pressure, temperature, position and water analysis.
- Carried out fault finding and diagnosis of problems affecting plant and systems, taking corrective actions to anticipate and prevent downtime.
- Troubleshoots telemetry, Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system Programmable Logic Control (PLC) software and hardware, makes recommendations and performs software changes, maintains documentation of changes to the software and hardware.
- Performs breakdown repairs whenever required and shows initiative in identifying opportunities to improve plant and machinery performance
- Makes periodic preventative maintenance inspections of all metering control instruments, diagnosing existing or potential trouble; cleans, lubricates, calibrates and adjusts as conditions indicate.
- Assists in preparing and submitting requirements for spares and proposals for modifications.
- Lay out, install and place into service new metering, controlling and recording devices, calibrating as required; may extend or connect related Electrical/Instrumentation circuits.
- Assists in the supervision of contract Electrical/Instrumentation labour.
- Carry out Risk Assessment exercises and take part in toolbox talks as appropriate.
- Regularly review and monitor compliance with safe work systems and Electrical/ Instrumentation procedures.
- Statutory Compliance Testing;
- Working on "Motors & Control" conveyors & associated switches/sensors;
- Lighting & Power and some substation work;
- Install Electrical/Instrumentation systems and execute fault finding initiatives to repair and ensure minimal disruption to plant operations;
- Adhere to all OH&S and standard work procedures;
- Maintain high housekeeping standards within personal work area;
- Assisting in major projects and coordinating smaller projects;
- Prompt action and close out of safety issues affecting the workplace;
- Communicate and report Electrical/Instrumentation activities to the Foreman;
- Carry out other operational tasks as required.

- Previous experience working in a remote location;
- The ability to work shift work and respond to calls.
Qualifications, skills, and experience required:
- Behaviour consistent with St Barbara’s Values
- High Voltage Ticket
- Electrical/Instrumentation certificate;
- Senior First Aid;
- Electrical/Instrumentation experience in an industrial, construction or mining environment 3-5 years;
- Experience with upgrading, maintaining or repairing fixed plant equipment;
- HV Installs & Switching experience preferable;
- A minimum of 2 years experience in a similar role working with PLC's, VSD's, SCADA system
