We are currently seeking a Supply Superintendent to join our team. permanent full-time position at our Simberi Operation. Your work location is Papua New Guinea, working a 21/14 Roster from Kavieng/Rabaul/Port Moresby/Lae/Mt Hagen/Buka/Madang/Goroka/Alotau/Wapenamanda/Popondetta/ Hoskins/ Vanimo/ Wewak or Tabar group of Islands. (Locals are encouraged to apply).

Reporting to the Commercial Manager.  

Reporting to the Commercial Manager, the purpose of this role is to lead the site Supply team overseeing the purchasing, logistics, warehouse and inventory management functions. The role will be responsible for implementing and maintaining supply policies and procedures that are consistent with corporate requirements, are practical in their application and deliver value to the Simberi operation.

The opportunity

   Role accountabilities

  • Control internal warehouse activities to ensure efficient receiving, storing, and distribution of goods
  • Conduct regular stock takes to ensure accuracy and availability of stock
  • Work closely with the Maintenance teams to ensure availability of critical parts
  • Develop and recommend improvements in warehouse practices to promote safety and customer satisfaction
  • Provide inventory reporting and analysis to the Finance and Administration Manager as required
  • Provide expediting reports to the site maintenance teams on a weekly or fortnightly basis
  • Monitor and propose changes to inventory levels to ensure the efficient use of the company’s working capital, and develop and initiate strategies for the reduction of slow moving and obsolete stock 
  • Actively work with site Maintenance staff to ensure cost effective and efficient planning for shutdowns and emergency breakdowns

Business Support

  • Create and maintain policies, procedures, and workflows for the Supply department activities, from end-to-end inventory and warehouse management to logistics and transportation (air, sea, and land)
  • Ensure SGCL receives the best value from the purchasing (and expediting) function by effectively negotiating prices, terms, and other areas that can deliver value (in the context of ‘Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) to the Business’)

  • Ensuring and monitoring safety in the workplace by identifying and addressing hazards, participating in improving safety and ensuring all reporting requirements are completed.
  • Promote a strong safety culture, leading by example and rewarding success
  • Comply with Company objectives, policies, procedures, safe work practices, relevant Acts and Regulations.
  • Champion excellence and leadership in creating a positive safety culture and actively participate in supporting the Company’s objectives, policies, procedures, safe work practices, and relevant Acts and Regulations.
  • Ensures department adheres to high standards of safety, community, environmental protection and compliance.
  • Actively participate to improve and sustain a positive safety culture across the organisation.
  • Report on accidents and incidents and contribute to investigations where required.

Essential

  • Behaviour consistent with St Barbara’s Values
  • Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Business/Management
  • Ability to produce a National Police Clearance (valid within the last 3 months) for site access purposes
  • Current unencumbered‘C’ Class Driver’s Licence
  • Ability to work with people from different backgrounds and cultures
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines on multiple tasks and enthusiasm for the work with high performance goals
  • Commercial acumen to ensure appropriate management of contracts and supply chain outcomes
  • Be prepared to challenge the norm, drive continuous improvement, and demonstrate experience in implementing best practice using a hands-on approach

 Desirable

  • Diploma of Leadership & Management.
  • CIPS qualification
  • Maritime qualification and training in relation to port operations and stevedoring actions
  • Experience working in a developing and remote location ideally in PNG
