Switch on your career at Powerco

At Powerco, we’re more than an electricity and gas distribution network company. Our customers, and the communities we serve, rely on us to deliver safe, reliable and affordable energy solutions. That means maintaining our existing poles, wires and pipes, and moving towards an energy future centred around sustainability, innovation and, simply put, doing what’s right.

We’re on the hunt for passionate, curious and innovative graduates, like you, to join our 2026 Graduate Programme!

Why Powerco?

Our programme is designed with two things in mind - Impact and Growth. Here's what it looks like:

  • Workstream rotations - You’ll spend time in different areas of the business to give you time to learn, gain experience and help find where you fit - a place where you can make valuable, positive contributions and have a real impact.
  • Real projects, real exposure - You’ll work on mahi that matters and have opportunities to see how your work impacts customers, contractors and the industry. That means attending site visits to see your projects and meet our contractors in the field. You’ll attend industry conferences and events to gain exposure and real industry insights.
  • Grad Development Programme - With a te ao māori foundation and modules built around all facets of leadership, including leading self, you and your graduate rōpū will get together quarterly to connect, learn, grow and have fun.

One last thing, did we mention that all of our grads are guaranteed a permanent role at Powerco? To be honest, most of our grads get permanent roles before the end of the Graduate programme!

Sounds good right?! But wait, there's more:

  • Competitive salary range from $65,000 per year
  • 6-monthly remuneration review
  • $750 “new you” clothing allowance for a new wardrobe that makes YOU feel good
  • 10 volunteer days to support causes that matter to you and to give back to your community
  • Coverage of Engineering NZ membership fees or other relevant professional memberships
  • Support and reimbursement for car driver’s licence fees if you're yet to obtain a full licence
  • Support and reimbursement of relocation costs.

Who we’re looking for:

We’re after graduate engineers with a blend of passion and skill who are armed with a degree or diploma in engineering. What branch of Engineering I hear you say! There is the obvious one, Electrical Engineering, and others that have a more natural fit like Mechatronics, however, if you can tie your qualifications and experience back to what we do now and what we need for the future, we'd love to hear from you.

If you have a flair for finding simple solutions for complex problems or a knack for knowing where to go to find answers, we’re keen to hear from you. If you’re a confident communicator, a visionary looking for challenge and purpose, or a hard worker who gets the mahi done, we’re keen to hear from you too.

Join our 500+ team. We need people like you. Apply Now!

Applications close: 30th April 2025

Our ability to get the best out of people is what sets Powerco apart. We realise that candidates – especially from underrepresented and neurodiverse backgrounds – often won’t apply for roles unless they meet ALL the criteria. We encourage anyone who shares our passion for connecting communities to apply for any role that aligns to your strengths and interests. We will provide a safe space where you can bring your whole self to work and thrive.

If you would benefit from support or adjustments in order to participate equitably in the recruitment process, please phone 0800 769372 or email kiaora@powerco.co.nz
