About the role

We are currently seeking expressions of interest for multiple Senior Testers and Field Testers to join our team in the new year!

The primary focus of these roles is ensuring the proper functioning and reliability of protection and control systems within the Jemena electrical power system. This involves testing, commissioning, maintaining, and troubleshooting secondary protection relays, control systems and primary network equipment as well as high voltage underground cables and distribution field devices to ensure the safety, efficiency and accuracy of electrical infrastructure. In addition, for our Senior Testers, you will have vast experience in project commissioning.

The successful candidate is required to display a positive customer and team focus, work effectively, participate in identifying workplace change or productivity improvements. This role will be based out of our Broadmeadows depot.

Key Responsibilities include

  • Perform diagnostic testing and maintenance services on a wide variety of electrical protection and control relays and equipment
  • Analyse and troubleshoot protection system faults and malfunctions to identify root causes and recommend corrective actions
  • Participate in the commissioning of new protection and control equipment, ensuring that it meets design specifications and regulatory requirements
  • Verify the integration of protection devices with overall power system infrastructure
  • Generate detailed reports documenting the performance of protection and control systems
  • Coordinate testing activities with internal & external customers
  • Prepare work records and reports as required, including input into databases and work hours/daily work records
  • Maintain up-to-date training and authorizations at all times
  • Support the development of other team members, including trainees
  • Adhere to safety guidelines and protocols while working with high-voltage equipment
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations related to protection and control systems

About You

  • Possess an Advanced Diploma of ESI – Power Systems or an equivalent qualification
  • Strong technical knowledge and experience working across power systems related secondary and primary equipment
  • Proficiency in using relay testing equipment such as power system simulators, as well as primary test equipment
  • Experience in analysing and solving technical information, including fault finding in relation to both the maintenance and commissioning of secondary and primary systems
  • Effective communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams and convey technical information to non-technical stakeholders
  • Exercise decisiveness in ensuring network security and public safety
  • Ability to compare information from different sources to draw conclusions, and select an appropriate course of action
