About the role

The Advanced Plant Operator will support civil construction crews in a variety of tasks, including excavation, backfilling, cable installations (including underground fibre optic cables), recoveries, and reinstatement work.

This is a field-based role, and standard working hours are 6:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday to Friday.

In this role, you will work closely with colleagues across different disciplines, gaining exposure to a wide range of activities and responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities include 

  • Excavate trenches according to specifications and install pipe as per plans
  • Shovelling materials such as asphalt and dirt to and from construction areas
  • Load and unload construction materials and supplies from trucks
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment, including machinery and work sites
  • Operate a variety of hand and power tools and assist with underground service spotting
  • Read and interpret plans and take direction from the Crew Leader

About You 

The successful applicant will have experience working in a similar role within the construction industry, while actively participating in identifying site hazards and implementing control measures.

  • Proven experience operating excavators, with a strong knowledge of trenching techniques and the ability to dig around underground services
  • Ability to implement environmental controls and read and interpret DBYD plans
  • A valid HR Driver’s Licence and tickets for Excavators and Skid Steer are required
  • First Aid, Dogging, and Confined Space tickets are highly desirable
