About the role

As the National Engineering Manager, you will lead ZPI’s engineering and design management team with vision and collaboration, fostering a high-performance culture that drives exceptional outcomes. This role is pivotal in implementing ZPI’s engineering strategy, ensuring alignment with project goals and delivering innovative, sustainable solutions.

You’ll inspire and support your team, championing growth and development while building strong, respectful relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Your commitment to safety, quality, and problem-solving will help deliver projects that exceed client expectations. With your leadership, ZPI will achieve impactful results, creating lasting value across a diverse and dynamic project portfolio.

Key Responsibilities include

  • Identifying and implementing quantifiable engineering and design efficiency improvements on an annual basis
  • Participating in the strategic planning process, including setting operational KPIs to achieve strategic targets.
  • Leading and developing the Engineering and Design team to enhance individual and team performance, ensuring engagement and the attraction and retention of talent.
  • Challenging others to develop as leaders while serving as a role model and mentor.
  • Managing the performance and motivating the team through effective goal-setting, accountability targets, and KPIs as appropriate.
  • Representing the organization in negotiations and engaging with stakeholders such as technical regulators, suppliers, customers, industry associations, and government representatives.
  • Ensuring projects are being delivered to Australian standards, legislative requirements, and Zinfra’s technical standards, specifications, and guidelines.
  • Driving a commercial contracting culture within the Engineering and Design management team while being responsive to customers' identified needs.
  • Delivering agreed EBIT targets and commercial KPIs at both divisional and project-specific levels.
  • Developing engineering functions to support the growth of Zinfra and client requirements.
  • Planning for and anticipating change internally and externally to keep Zinfra at the forefront of providing Engineering and Design management services.
  • Driving a safety culture and implementing safety processes and systems to ensure consistently safe delivery of work as well as safety performance improvement.

Key Requirements

  • Proven experience in setting and executing Engineering & Design management strategies.
  • Strong leadership within contracting businesses in infrastructure, utilities, or energy sectors.
  • Expertise in resource forecasting, staff development, and managing Transmission Engineering & Design functions.
  • High-level business acumen with a commitment to delivering quality systems and outcomes.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills for nurturing team growth and respectful client relationships
