About the role:
We are seeking an experienced, passionate, and dedicated Online Tutor to support students enrolled in the NZ Certificate in Information Technology (CIT) course. This is a fully remote position, allowing you to teach from anywhere in New Zealand while helping students build their technical knowledge and practical skills.
The Online Tutor will provide supplementary academic support, conduct structured tutoring sessions, and engage with at-risk learners to enhance student outcomes. This role is essential in ensuring students receive the guidance and mentoring needed to succeed in their studies.
** Please note that is a 12-month fixed-term role working 30- hours a week. This role will be responsible for the delivery of classes throughout the week including evenings and weekend **
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct structured online sessions to reinforce key course concepts, using interactive teaching methods to enhance student understanding.
- Host open Q&A sessions to assist students with coursework and assignments.
- Provide focused resubmission support by guiding students in understanding feedback and improving their work.
- Engage with at-risk and disengaged learners through personalized study plans and outreach efforts.
- Collaborate with class tutors to align on student needs, participate in weekly meetings, and document key student challenges.
- Prepare lesson materials, respond to student inquiries, and review student submissions.
Required Skills/Experience:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Professional background/experience in IT Support/Help Desk or another related IT field
- Ability to guide students through key topics, including hardware, networking for system administration, operating systems, and scripting for system administration, ensuring they gain practical, hands-on experience.
- Experience using sandbox environments for conducting practical labs and supporting students with hands-on learning.
- Prior experience in tutoring, teaching, or student support in an online environment is preferred.
- Experience working with diverse learners, including neurodiverse students.
- Strong communication, mentoring, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in using learning management systems (LMS) and online teaching tools effectively.
- Availability to work evenings and weekends absolutely essential.
