Nurse Unit Manager

Status: Full Time - 80 hours per fortnight with a monthly Accrued Day off (ADO)

Classification: NM11 Nurses Midwives Enterprise Agreement 2024-2028

About the role:

Karana provides a high standard of residential complex care for persons who can no longer remain living independently in the community, and have complex health needs.

At Karana, daily life revolves around the important people in our care. This is their home and we do our best to make each day happy and fulfilling. We cater for residents requiring our daily care and assistance. All rooms come with an ensuite and enjoy very pleasant outlooks. Rooms are furnished with a specialised care bed, over-bed table and built-in wardrobe. Residents are well supported by a range of services that include allied health professionals, hair salon, personal care, medication routines and treatment, laundry and room cleaning. For complete piece of mind (for residents and their loved ones) assistance is available 24 hours a day.

Karana features several communal and open spaces, allowing residents to spend their time where they choose. They can move between smaller private areas, the dining room or retreat areas with tea and coffee making facilities.

The Nurse Unit Manager (NUM) is expected to have a rapport with every individual residing within the unit and is accountable for the provision of high-quality care for them. This is achieved through effective leadership in the management of staff and other resources to create a culture where resident quality of life is optimised through evidence based and person-centered care.

Skills & Experience

Qualifications:

  • Current registration with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as a Registered Nurse Division 1
  • Tertiary qualifications in management or working towards same highly desired.
  • Completion of Dementia specific training.

Key Selection Criteria:

  • Minimum Five (5) Years’ Experience in Residential Aged Care as a RN/ANUM
  • Proven experience at Associate Nurse Unit Manager or Nurse Unit Manager level
  • Currency of clinical practice in relation to all aspects of clinical care including but not limited to, medication management, falls prevention, pressure injury prevention, wound care, nutrition and continence management, palliative and dementia care including BPSD
  • Ability to operate effectively in an environment of change and continuous improvement
  • Demonstrated ability to manage resources effectively
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with high level effective communication skills
  • Proven knowledge of information management systems
  • Demonstrated understanding of contemporary health service and Aged Care related issues
  • A passion to improve resident care through coaching and development programs
  • Understanding of, and ability to manage operational and business focused objectives
