We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Field Engineer specialising in Geotechnical, Structural, Civil or Geological projects to join our team who can be based anywhere in Australia. This is a challenging role that will see you deliver innovative and effective technical solutions for a large international mining client.

You will be part of our accomplished Mining Services division within a Tier 1 engineering firm and will work alongside our established team of Mining, Geotechnical and Water experts. Your role will also be well supported across our business by skilled resources in other sections.  

The opportunity is to work on a technically challenging and internationally significant engineering project in Papua New Guinea (PNG) on a long-term basis. It is offered as a FIFO equal time roster (22/20) which includes a project uplift, paid travel days and an additional weekly site bonus. Flights to and from the project will be provided from each state’s capital city and some regional airports. Food and accommodation will be provided in a camp environment while in PNG.

What you’ll do:

  • Participation in a team of WSP technical experts (engineers, geologists) whose role is to oversee QA/QC construction of ground anchor installations, testing and associated civil works at open pit mine in PNG
  • Perform required inspections and input into recording and reporting of QA/QC
  • Support the provision of technical advice on complex geotechnical and civil issues
  • Provide safety leadership in identifying and alleviating/ eliminating high priority safety hazards

About you:

  • A relevant engineering or technical qualification or alternatively extensive industry experience
  • Generally 3-10 years of postgraduate experience, including 2+ years of site experience in a similar role
  • Experience in provision construction phase services associated with civil infrastructure works; in particular ground anchoring, shotcreting or slope stabilisation works highly regarded.
  • Experience in the QA/QC and RFI/TQ documentation as part of the design engineer’s team highly regarded
  • Experience in open pit mining, shotcreting, post tensioned ground anchors and geotechnical instrumentation (such as vibrating wire anchor load cells, VW piezometers, radar prisms and TDR cables) is highly regarded
  • Demonstrated commitment to Health and Safety
  • Experience working on a remote site or in a developing country – desirable
  • Attaining a long-term PNG Visa is required – WSP will cover the cost and administration for this process
