The Opportunity 

Our national Dam Engineering team is looking for a senior expert at the Principal or Technical Executive/Director level

The location for this role is flexible; you may be based in any of our Brisbane, Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth or Sydney office with an option to work remotely up to 2-3 days per week to ensure a great work-life balance. 

You will be responsible for providing technical and strategic leadership to this growing team. This includes overseeing the design, safety reviews, and remediation for high-profile multidisciplinary water dams, large pond reservoirs, and service basins infrastructure. 

Your role will involve driving innovative solutions to enhance site management and environmental protection. 

You will collaborate with a team of geotechnical, environmental, and civil engineers, supported by CAD and drafting specialists, to ensure excellence throughout every phase of the project. 

Day to day, you will also: 

  • Lead studies and detailed design projects related to dam remediation, expansion and new facility establishment. This includes working with a variety of client including water authorities, mine owners/operators and pumped hydro project developers. 
  • Contribute to strategic planning and operational management for dam projects and related infrastructure 
  • Support the team to conduct inspections, investigations, and condition assessments of existing dams to ensure safety and compliance 
  • Lead multidisciplinary dam safety reviews and integrate innovative solutions 
  • Integrate technical inputs from project peers to deliver project outcomes 
  • Support growth of the team by identifying market opportunities, leading proposal development and providing support the team in market engagement activities as appropriate to role and experience  
  • Liaise and work closely with Sector leadership and peer groups across APAC regions; act as a brand ambassador of WSP in Australia across geographies 
  • Mentor and coach junior engineers, supporting their professional development and growth  
  • Manage project delivery, mitigate risks, and ensure the highest standards of quality and safety whilst meeting commercial objectives 
  • Design and implement Quality Assurance protocols; participate in and support SHEQ within their scope of duties; promote Diversity and Inclusion 

 

About You 

You're likely to have a Bachelors Degree, Masters Degree or PhD in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering with extensive experience in dam engineering. 

You will also bring the following skills and experience: 

  • Experience in leading services related to dam design including in client facing roles 
  • Expertise in preparing design reports, technical specifications, and drawings 
  • Extensive experience in different dam systems engineering, design and quality control 
  • Knowledge of guidance and standards published by the Australian National Committee on Large Dams (ANCOLD) or similar international body 
  • Act as go-to expert in both theoretical and software domains 
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage both technical and non-technical stakeholders 
  • Strategic thinker, highly motivated, and committed to technical excellence and innovation
