We are searching for a visionary and accomplished General Counsel to join our Australian Leadership Team—a leader who can help us navigate the complexities of the legal landscape, drive forward-thinking strategies, and foster a client-centric culture. As General Counsel, your work will span diverse high-stakes areas, from leading governance initiatives to advising on cutting-edge projects that redefine industries.

This position will draw upon your strategic thinking and leadership, working with our Australia Leadership Team to position WSP as an industry leader.

What You Will Do

• Leadership and Governance: Lead and maintain a legal function that is commercially focused and aligned with the needs of a modern, fast-paced organisation. Assume the critical role of Company Secretary to ensure best-practice corporate governance.
• Major Contracts and Projects: Negotiate, draft, and review engineering services contracts, subcontracts, and other commercial agreements, focusing on Major Projects that showcase WSP’s capabilities.
• Mergers and Acquisitions: Provide expert counsel on M&A activities, navigating transaction documents, due diligence, and integration strategies to ensure seamless transitions.
• Legislative and Regulatory Insight: Stay ahead of the curve with proactive training and education programs that enhance the legal and professional services delivery of our teams.
• Risk Management: Identify, anticipate, and mitigate legal risks that could impact brand reputation, operations, or strategy. Propose innovative solutions to protect and strengthen the business.
• Privacy and Insurance Oversight: Lead the implementation of privacy programs and insurance frameworks, liaising with brokers and insurers to manage coverage, renewals, and claims effectively.

Your balanced approach enables you to weigh commercial imperatives alongside legal risks, earning the trust and respect of colleagues throughout WSP.

Your Profile:

• Law degree and admission to practice, with 15+ years of experience in construction, projects, or infrastructure law.
• A wide-ranging skill set, including expertise in corporate law, litigation, M&A, intellectual property, and contract negotiation.
• Outstanding communication and negotiation skills, with superior drafting abilities that set you apart.
• Proven leadership experience in managing legal teams and collaborating with global and local stakeholders.
• High emotional intelligence, cultural adaptability, and professional integrity—qualities that define your leadership style.
