The Opportunity
WSP's Mine Surface Water Team is seeking a Principal or Senior Water Resources Engineer to join their industry-leading group of technical specialists. Utilise your extensive technical knowledge and experience as you deliver on iconic Mine Water projects.
This role is based in our Perth office and will see you join our Mining team, helping clients optimise performance, boost profitability, and operate responsibly. We have a comprehensive understanding of the mining industry and current issues including decarbonisation. WSP's 'future-ready' strategies are critical to countering these issues, capitalising on opportunities, and adding value to businesses.
What You Will Do
- Provide technical guidance, assistance and review of the completion of non-Newtonian dam break assessments
- Direct, review, and conduct necessary rainfall, flow and flood assessments, including modelling, mapping, flood mitigation design, and risk assessments
- Provide technical leadership for water management-related studies and investigations from the pre-feasibility stage to detailed design
- Develop and support the existing Mine Water group's capability in stormwater management and flood studies
- Direct, review, and conduct necessary hydrological, hydraulic and probabilistic water balance models to assess surface water/runoff flows, peak flows and flood risk, and site water management requirements
- Undertake and review designs of hydraulic and other water management structures for mine sites
- Support and execute business development activities, developing client relationships, and writing proposals
- Project management, including project scoping, budget control, planning, development of schedules and coordination of staff.
About You
Ideally, you will possess the following skills and experience or be able to demonstrate similar to be successful in this role.
- Bachelor's degree in civil or environmental engineering or a related field with a strong focus on hydrology.
- Masters (MSc) degree in hydrology or related discipline will be advantageous.
- Proficiency with GIS (ArcGIS suite) applications and with hydraulic, flood modelling software (e.g. HEC-RAS, TUFLOW, and MIKE) and water balance modelling software (GoldSim etc.).
- CPEng status or relevant experience to work towards accreditation.
- Ability to mentor and support junior and intermediate staff.
- Ability to work with clients (internal and external) to solve complex challenges.
- Understanding non-Newtonian flow conditions and specific skills related to modelling tailings storage facility dam break assessments.
- Ability to demonstrate a resourceful approach to work, displaying initiative and decision-making skills.
- Excellent technical writing skills with experience in proposal writing and technical reporting.
