The Wesfarmers Group has a portfolio of varied retail businesses which include Bunnings, Kmart, Target, Officeworks and Priceline. A unique opportunity has arisen to join our Corporate Solicitors Office and provide legal support initially to Bunnings and more generally as required to other parts of Wesfarmers’ retail operations.

Reporting to the General Manager – Legal (Retail), you will be a part of the Wesfarmers Corporate Solicitors Office but located within Bunnings at this time. This will allow you to build an in-depth understanding of the business operations while being part of a supportive, experienced in-house legal team.

What you’ll do

  • Working closely with business stakeholders to provide commercially astute legal advice
  • Drafting and negotiating a range of commercial contracts
  • Providing advice on regulatory matters
  • Engaging and managing external legal advisers
  • Educating team members on legal obligations and new developments

What you’ll need

  • At least 6 years post admission experience with commercial and corporate legal experience across a broad range of issues
  • Proven experience in working with businesses to arrive at commercial outcomes
  • Demonstrated capability in advising on commercial contracts (including technology / building / procurement contracts); privacy and data security; and competition and consumer law
  • Ability to prioritise in a busy environment and adopt a pragmatic approach to ensure a quick turnaround when providing advice
  • Strong drafting, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Well-developed interpersonal and communication capabilities
  • To be humble and a team player
  • A curiosity to learn and develop new skills

The Corporate Office provides corporate services and support to the autonomous businesses within the Wesfarmers Group, enabling the achievement of Group objectives. It leads capital allocation and portfolio management for the Group and focuses on leveraging and enhancing the Group’s reputation to support attraction and retention of talent, securing investment opportunities and maintaining a low-cost capital.
