We have an opportunity for a Principal – Environmental Governance, Assurance and Performance to establish and deliver of the Water Corporations Environmental Regulatory Compliance and Assurance Program and to establish and implement corporate environmental performance metrics. The opportunity is focused on supporting continuous environmental performance improvement in the design, construction and operation of Water Corporation assets in alignment to Water Corporation’s Strategy Thrive 2035.

About the role

As a leader within the Environmental Business Unit and reporting to the Team Lead, Technical Advisory, this role will partner with Section Managers and Team Leaders across the business in Asset Planning and Delivery Group, Operations Group and Customer and Community Group to shape Corporation environmental performance reporting and ESG outcomes throughout the life of our regulated water service assets.
You’ll step into a highly capable team of energetic professionals. As a proven environmental discipline leader, you will successfully engage and communicate with internal and external stakeholders to guide and influence environmental performance outcomes.
You will be an important part of an evolving Business Unit currently in the process of defining and embedding environmental performance reporting reforms associated with Corporate reporting and performance measurement processes across the wide range of design, operational and governance processes.
About you
You will collaborate across multiple areas within Water Corporation including Assets Planning and Delivery, Operations and Customer and Community Groups to establish and deliver a framework and processes to ensure objectives, management and governance of the Corporations environmental sustainability requirements are understood and achieved. This includes, but not limited to, Risk Management, Performance and reporting, Audit and Assurance, Legal and other requirements (compliance and obligations).

Key skills and experience
You will be degree qualified in a relevant field and demonstrate substantial experience in environmental processes (as appropriate) in relation to planning, environmental risk assessment, approvals processes, operational management and, overall, compliance areas.
As an experienced and engaging Principal, you will coach and mentor the Environment Business Unit to maximise individual and team potential and performance.
You will have demonstrate expert knowledge and skill in:
- Manage Legal and Regulatory Compliance - applying appropriate legal, regulatory and technical requirements in the delivery of Corporate objectives, understands and considers relevant external drivers to minimise business and compliance risks.
- Environmental Advocacy and Governance - promoting and leading the Corporation in achieving sustainable environmental outcomes accelerating environmental sustainability.
- Environmental Assessment – managing the assessment of environmental impacts and identifies solutions to minimise these impacts.
You will have substantial experience and expert knowledge and skill applying appropriate legal, regulatory and technical requirements in the delivery of Corporate objectives, understands and considers relevant external drivers to minimise business and compliance risks in accordance with relevant State and Commonwealth processes, e.g. Environmental Protection Act 1986 (Parts IV and V), Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 and Carbon Credits (Carbon Farming Initiative) Act 2011.
