About the role

We have a fixed term opportunity available within our Water Quality Business Unit – Strategy & Risk team for a Senior Technical Advisor – Source Protection Planning

The purpose of the role is to ensure that water quality principles are appropriately considered in new source investigations, as well as driving risk management of our legacy water source risks.

You will be responsible for carrying out risk assessments and providing technical advice to the wider Water Corporation business. Your role has a primary focus on water quality planning and risk management for existing and future water sources.

This opportunity is from 22nd July 2024 – 4th July 2025.

 

The work includes:

  • Attendance as a ‘subject matter expert’ at regular planning and project meetings, providing both short- and long-term responses, and longer-term risk assessments and technical reports. The role is crucial in the overall source planning process at the Water Corporation.
  • Being the voice for water quality among various areas of our business. You will build strong relationships with our Asset Investment Planning Group, regional operations, Project Management, and Development Services business units by routine engagement. You should feel comfortable with expressing water quality drivers to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Identify, develop, and implement strategies to address emerging issues in drinking water quality particularly in relation to source water quality and source protection.
  • Review and influence to continually improve source protection policies internal and external to the Corporation.
  • Ensure that water quality source risk assessment processes are robust and consistent with related relevant drinking water quality processes.
  • Lead/drive implementation of source protection improvement processes, including, identified risk mitigation as well as leading targeted Projects which are established to mitigate and reduce source protection risks.

Ideally you will possess the following:

  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills will be essential to this role. Your communication skills will be evident in written and verbal approaches.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the principles of water quality and water source protection.
  • Degree level qualifications in engineering, science, or environmental science and/or substantial experience in the water source/quality planning and operations.
  • Experience in development and implementation of strategic initiatives with the ability to distil information and adapt it to suit requirements of different audiences.
  • The values and behaviours that contribute to an achievement culture.
