Our 2020-2025 Looking Ahead Strategic Plan captures the spirit of looking to the future to imagine and then realise possibilities, enabled by the values of excellence, equity, engagement and sustainability. Inclusive and culturally responsive, the University has a long and proud history as an innovator in educational outcomes and employment opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

The College of Health, Medicine and Wellbeing is committed to producing exemplary health care practitioners and researchers who can provide innovative solutions to deliver better, healthier living for our communities. Working collaboratively and innovatively with our external partners and other stakeholders, and across the University, is critical to this success.

Reporting to the College Pro Vice-Chancellor, an exciting career opportunity exists for an innovative and visionary Head of School and Dean to lead the School of Medicine and Public Health and the Joint Medical Program (JMP), a unique partnership between the University of Newcastle and the University of New England.

The School of Medicine and Public Health encompasses clinical disciplines involved in medicine, as well as areas relating to health, clinical epidemiology, medical statistics, and public health. The School has a strong focus on developing the next generation of clinicians and public health professionals who go on to contribute to health care within the region and beyond. World-class researchers drive discoveries that challenge conventional thinking, break new ground, and change lives. Working with industry, community and government partners, the School operates at the interface of healthcare and translates new knowledge into innovations that make a real difference.

The University is seeking an effective leader, enabler and engager as Head of School and Dean, with a strong record of scholarship and relevant experience in research, teaching and engagement, coupled with a commitment to equity and social justice. An ability to inspire and enable a large team, while embracing change is important, combined with a strong focus on delivering a medical education that is responsive to the needs of a contemporary Australian workforce in health.

If you are a collaborative leader with a passion for delivering educational and research excellence across Medicine or Public Health, then we would like to hear from you.
