The School of Nursing and Midwifery is a large School delivering excellent undergraduate, postgraduate, and higher research degree programs of study. It is one of four Schools within the College of Health, Medicine and Wellbeing.

The School is ranked 48th in the world in the QS World University Rankings by subject 2024 and has a world class ERA ranking. The School’s priorities are developing a strong workforce for the region and producing translational research which positively impacts the health of local and global communities.

Reporting to the Pro Vice-Chancellor, College of Health, Medicine, and Wellbeing, an opportunity exists for an outstanding person to provide vision and leadership in the Nursing and Midwifery disciplines as Head of School. This role will have responsibility for advancing teaching and education scholarship, research excellence, and evidenced-based practice.

The successful candidate will work within the strategic framework of the School of Nursing and Midwifery, and the College, to foster a collaborative, dynamic, productive, and globally competitive research environment through industry partnerships, health research collaborations, grants, publications, and research higher degree graduates. The role will work closely with the School’s academic team and health profession regulators to ensure curriculum is progressing nursing and midwifery practice, with a strong focus on student experience.

The position is located in Newcastle, with regular travel to the University’s campuses on the Central Coast and at Taree. This role provides an opportunity to influence thought leadership in an integrated and innovative teaching and research environment with direct impact on patients and the community.
