The unit

Part of the School of Humanities, Creative Industries and Social Sciences, our Social Work group provides a suite of innovative research and teaching initiatives in Social Work and Public and Community Health.

We offer a range of programs, including a Bachelor of Social Work, Research Higher Degrees, and in 2025, a new Master of Social Work (qualifying). These programs are designed to prepare students for dynamic careers in one of the most in demand employment pathways of the future.

The role

The purpose of this role is to deliver high-quality placement education for our Social Work programs, ensuring alignment with AASW accreditation and program requirements. 

Key responsibilities include:

  • Coordinating and delivering engaging placement courses in the Social Work programs.
  • Building networks and industry partnerships to facilitate placement opportunities and to integrate students and graduates into industry.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to students, fostering their academic and professional growth.
  • Initiating and developing course materials in collaboration with academic lead for relevance and skills development.

Two continuing positions are available full time and will be located at the Newcastle City Campus (Awabakal and Worimi land). 

What you need to succeed

  • Qualification in Social Work and eligibility for AASW membership with 5 years of relevant experience working as a social worker.
  • Skills in placement education management and supervision
  • Strong professional networks, and the ability to develop new collaborative relationships with industry partners.
  • Be committed to academic excellence, integrity, and fostering an inclusive learning environment.

The remuneration for this position is from $78,905 - $107,080+ 17% superannuation and is commensurate with skills and experience.
