The Joint Medical Program (JMP) is a nationally recognized collaboration between the University of Newcastle (UON) and the University of New England (UNE), designed to train the next generation of medical professionals. We are seeking a highly motivated Joint Medical Program Manager to provide high-level strategic, executive, and operational leadership, ensuring the continued success of this unique program.
The Role
As the JMP Manager, you will work closely with the Dean of the Joint Medical Program and the UNE Head of the School of Rural Medicine to provide expert advice, strategic oversight, and executive support. You will lead the development and implementation of the JMP Strategic Plan, oversee governance and policy development, and coordinate complex multi-institutional relationships. Your ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders—including university faculties, clinical schools, health partners, and accreditation bodies—will be essential to ensuring the effective delivery and continuous improvement of the program.

About You
You are an experienced leader with a strong background in higher education management, health education, or program administration. You have exceptional stakeholder engagement skills, a deep understanding of governance and policy frameworks, and the ability to drive strategic initiatives in a complex, multi-institutional environment.
You will bring:
- Proven experience in program management, governance, and strategic planning
- Strong leadership and stakeholder engagement skills across universities and health sectors
- Expertise in policy development, accreditation requirements, and contractual agreements
- Excellent communication and analytical skills to support high-level decision-making
- The ability to manage complex projects with competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
This continuing position is fulltime at a HEW 8 Higher Education Level located at John Hunter Hospital.

About the Unit
The School of Medicine and Public Health’s educational strengths include delivery of the JMP which comprises the sequential programs Bachelor of Medical Science and Doctor of Medicine (BMedSc MD). The school also has a strong research focus and works closely with the Hunter Medical Research Institute (HMRI).
The JMP was established in 2006 as a collaborative partnership with the University of New England to jointly deliver the five-year medical program. It does so in partnership with NSW Health and the Hunter New England and Central Coast Local Health Districts, and numerous General Practice facilities and other medical student placement host organisations.

- Demonstrated knowledge of workplace obligations to, and experience in leading and cultivating workplace practices and behaviours that promote, support, and maintain a safe, healthy, equitable, diverse, and respectful workplace, including responding appropriately to adverse accidents, incidents, behaviours, issues, reports, and the like.
