This position is responsible for delivering a high level of customer service to international students, university colleagues, and external stakeholders.

It involves delivering a range of services advice and engagement opportunities, designed to support the orientation and success of international students studying at the University of Newcastle., This role will work closely with stakeholders from Student Central and with multiple Divisions across the University, including Colleges, Entities, as well as Government and Community bodies.

  • Providing practical welfare support to international students
  • Developing relevant and interactive support resources specifically for international students
  • Maximising their pre and post arrival and study experience by providing advice and assistance

About the Unit

Student Central is responsible for supporting and enabling the student journey to enrich the educational experience at the University with a holistic approach to the student experience, Staff in this domain work to connect students to the support and services they need through a streamlined approach to administrative processes and a range of student engagement initiatives.

This role is a continuing full-time position at a HEW 6 Higher Education Level and will be located at the Callaghan Campus. Routine travel will be required to other Newcastle campuses and occasional work required at our Central Coast and Sydney Campuses.

  1. Demonstrated experience in working with international students in a higher education sector or diverse populations in comparable sectors in the areas of student support, and student engagement.
  2. Understanding of the ESOS Act and National Code 2018 and how they apply to international students and the University.
  3. Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills including the capacity to build relationships with stakeholders.
  4. Demonstrated experience in cultural competence, especially participating ethically and effectively in personal and professional intercultural settings.
  5. Demonstrated experience and commitment to providing excellent customer service.
