About the University

Knowledge Exchange & Enterprise (KEE) forms part of the University’s Research and Innovation Division and is the Technology Transfer Office of the University of Newcastle. KEE provides a critical link between industry and the academic and professional staff of the University, facilitating the increased research and commercialisation revenue for the transfer of knowledge, technology and scientific research from the University to commercial partners.

About the Position

As a Business Development Manager you will be responsible for identifying, developing and converting new business opportunities into research and commercialisation revenue streams. You will be working in close partnership with stakeholders including:

  • University’s academic staff across all disciplines in our Colleges
  • Key regional, national and international business and industry partners,
  • NGOs and
  • Government and community agencies.

This is a continuing, full-time position and is located at the Callaghan Campus. Occasional interstate and regional travel is required.

 

About You

You will have:

  • Extensive experience in a business development role and converting a pipeline of opportunities into new revenue streams, ideally within a University context
  • Proven ability to build meaningful and strategic partnerships with industry and other external partners
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively build rapport with academic researchers, or within complex public sector environments
  • Outstanding communication, influencing and negotiation skills
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge of research, commercialisation, commercial contracts and intellectual property management
  • Specialised skills or experience in biotechnology or life sciences would be an advantage
  • Contemporary knowledge and experience in supporting applications to government grant schemes and industry-research collaboration initiatives

The remuneration for this position is ranges from $112,112 to $130,798 plus 17% superannuation.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of intellectual property management as it applies to research and commercialisation.
  • Demonstrated ability to build rapport and effectively engage with a diverse range of stakeholders, including academic researchers, industry representatives, funding bodies, and government agencies.
  • Excellent communication, influencing and negotiation skills, particularly conveying complex information and preparing high level presentations, reports and briefings.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of business investment concepts and relevant fundraising approaches including contemporary knowledge of supporting applications to government grant schemes.
