About the Unit

The University of Newcastle Legal Centre is the centrepiece of the Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice Program which is a live client fully accredited practical legal training program for law students.

In this role you will:

  • Oversee operations of the University of Newcastle Legal Centre (UNLC).
  • Manage the Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice at the School of Law and Justice.
  • Provide strategic leadership in community engagement and clinical legal education.
  • Ensure delivery of high-quality experiential legal education.
  • Foster relationships with industry, government, and professional bodies.
  • Develop and implement best practice course design in clinical legal education.
  • Lead and inspire a team of professional staff to achieve exceptional performance and career development.

This continuing position is full time and will be located at the Newcastle City Campus (Awabakal and Worimi land). 

How will you inspire us?

  • Admitted to legal practice in NSW or equivalent, eligible for a current unrestricted practising certificate.
  • Extensive legal experience with complex public interest casework and advocacy.
  • Proven ability and commitment to deliver high-quality teaching and clinical supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead the further development of best practice course design in clinical legal education. 
  • Demonstrated ability to foster relationships with industry, government, and professional bodies.
  • Strong strategic leadership skills with the ability to motivate and manage a professional team.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to the ethos of a community legal centre with experience or interest in legal aid, public interest advocacy, or community legal service.

What we offer

The remuneration for this position is $140,139 +17% superannuation and is commensurate with skills and experience. Subject to approval, additional loadings may be considered for eligible candidates.
