About the Unit

The University of Newcastle Legal Centre is the centrepiece of the Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice Program, which is a live client, fully accredited, practical legal training program for law students.


Be challenged and imagine with us

In this role you will:

  • Teach in the School of Law and Justice’s LLB and Juris Doctor Programs, with particular emphasis on the Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice.
  • Supervise students on clinical placement at the University of Newcastle Legal Centre (UNLC).
  • Conduct client casework as part of the Practice Program.
  • Enhance relationships with alumni, the legal profession, and the community.
  • Deliver high-quality experiential legal education with a commitment to quality teaching.
  • Develop students' skills in legal analysis, reasoning, problem-solving, research, and written and oral communication.
  • Participate in customised legal clinics to expand learning opportunities and assist the community.

This continuing position is full time and will be located at the Newcastle City Campus (Awabakal and Worimi land). 


How will you inspire us?

  • Hold an undergraduate or postgraduate degree in Law.
  • Admitted to legal practice in NSW or equivalent, with a current or eligible practising certificate.
  • Possess accreditation as a specialist or have extensive legal casework experience in community law.
  • Commit to the ethos of a community legal centre.
  • Demonstrate high-quality teaching and clinical supervision capabilities.
  • Exhibit excellent verbal and written communication skills, with strong legal research and submission writing abilities.
  • Showcase excellent organisational, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.

What we offer

The remuneration for this position is from $130,798 - $140,139 + 17% superannuation and is commensurate with skills and experience.  Subject to approval, additional loadings may be considered for eligible candidates.
