The School of Biomedical Sciences and Pharmacy is seeking a dedicated Technical Officer - Anatomy Dissection to play a critical role in supporting our Anatomy Teaching Laboratory. This position ensures the seamless operation of laboratory teaching sessions, preparation of anatomical specimens, and contribution to training students and staff in dissection and prosection techniques. Your responsibilities will incorporate:

  • Preparing anatomical specimens
  • Assisting with the body donor program
  • Training students and staff in safety procedures.
  • Maintaining compliance with NSW Health regulations and Work Health and Safety (WHS) standards.
  • Monitoring and supporting student wellbeing, ensuring a safe and respectful learning environment.
  • Reviewing and updating Standard Operating Procedures and Risk Assessments for anatomy laboratory operations.
  • Maintaining laboratory cleanliness and organisation
  • Contributing to laboratory teaching activities

We are looking for someone with:

  • A strong background in anatomy, biological sciences, or a related discipline.
  • Experience in human dissection, prosection, and embalming techniques.
  • An understanding of health and safety regulations related to anatomical teaching laboratories.
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong organisational skills.
  • The ability to work compassionately with body donors and their bereaved families.
  • A collaborative approach and a commitment to supporting student learning.

This continuing position is part time 3 days per week at a HEW 5 Higher Education Level located at Callaghan Campus.

About the Unit  

The School of Biomedical Sciences & Pharmacy has a very large and diverse teaching operation, providing teaching in anatomy, biochemistry, physiology, pharmacology, microbiology, immunology and pharmacy in the College of Health Medicine and Wellbeing. The School offers Bachelor of Biomedical Science, Bachelor of Pharmacy and Bachelor of Biomedical Science honours degrees, in addition to delivering expert teaching in the Biomedical Sciences into 17 additional programs offered by the university. 

The School is one of the University's most research-intensive schools and is currently ranked very high in the university in terms of external research funding. Our researchers apply cutting edge technology and relevant disease models to address important questions and accelerate knowledge transfer. Our research themes include Immunology, Nutrition, Exercise and Cardiovascular Disease, Neuroscience, Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Science and Reproductive Science.

  1. A degree or extensive relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
  2. Demonstrated extensive experience in preparing high quality prosected material for teaching and training purposes. 
  3. Experience in dealing with the Anatomy Act and Human Tissue, Anatomy and Disposal of Bodies legislation as it relates to tertiary teaching Anatomy laboratories.
  4. Demonstrated experience in Work, Health and Safety procedures and maintaining Safety records and standards.
  5. Good organisational and time management skills and ability to work independently with a minimum of supervision and as part of a team
  6. The ability to communicate well with academic and professional staff, students and body donor families.
  7. Knowledge of, and experience in, adhering to workplace policies and procedures in the areas of work health safety, mental health wellbeing, equity, diversity and promoting a respectful workplace culture.
