We are seeking a dynamic and strategic individual to join our Library Executive Leadership Team as the Manager, Library Services. This role is pivotal in overseeing all operational and HR services within the library, including financial management, workplace health and safety, staff development, recruitment, and more. It offers a unique breadth of responsibility, serving as an excellent stepping stone into general management within the academic sector. Amongst other things you will:

  • Lead the development and delivery of the library’s strategic planning framework.
  • Work closely with the Planning and Quality Officer to ensure alignment with university planning cycles and drive continuous improvement.
  • Implement and coordinate the library’s quality management framework to foster a culture of innovation and excellence in service delivery.
  • Manage day-to-day operations of the University Librarian’s office, providing high-level leadership and administrative support.
  • Lead the development and implementation of the library’s workforce development plan, ensuring robust onboarding, training, and succession planning to meet strategic objectives.
  • Keep abreast of changes in legislation, HR practices, and university policies, advising the Library Executive accordingly.

This fixed term position is full time at a HEW 8 Higher Education Level until July 2025 located at Callaghan Campus.

About the Unit  

The University Library sits within the Academic Division and plays a pivotal role in supporting the learning and research needs of the UON community. Library staff work in partnership with the University community to provide convenient access to high quality information resources and information management services, tailored programs of student and researcher support, and first-class learning environments.

Library Business Services manages the central planning and quality management functions of the University Library, including finance, Human Resources, quality assurance, business efficiency, compliance and projects. The team provide expert advice and guidance to improve library operations and support key library projects.

  1. Postgraduate qualifications or progress towards postgraduate qualifications and extensive relevant experience; or extensive experience and management expertise; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
  2. Proven experience and understanding of business operations, including finance, human resources, strategic planning, compliance, risk and quality management.
  3. Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing policies, procedures and plans in a large organisation, with a clear focus on innovation and client focused solutions.
  4. Demonstrated leadership capability including the ability to lead/inspire a team of professional staff to deliver exceptional performance/outcomes.
  5. High level analytical and problem-solving skills and demonstrated experience in using business data analysis.
  6. Ability to work collaboratively and bring together people from different work areas to contribute to strategic and operational initiatives or priorities.
  7. Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills including the capacity to build relationships and an inter-disciplinary way of working.
