Our client is a partnership of Marine Professionals providing services in Engineering, Project Support, Surveying and Consulting to the Canadian marine industry. They have offices in Victoria and Vancouver (Burnaby). They are a full-service Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering company where clients are provided with turn-key solutions and support throughout the lifecycle of their vessels. Our client develops engineered solutions for new vessel design and vessel refits from concept through to implementation. Projects vary in complexity and size from small equipment installations to whole vessel detail designs.


Position Overview:

We are looking for a skilled Electrical Marine Engineer to contribute to our projects from an office setting. This position focuses on office work rather than direct boat or fieldwork.


Key Responsibilities:

As our clients Principal Electrical Engineer, you will bring your high degree of technical knowledge and innovative engineering to provide turnkey solutions to marine installations on small work boats to large ferry installations. In the Victoria office you must be capable of working without supervision, independently taking your project from start to finish with minimal subsequent direction after the initial assignment. As the lone and senior electrical engineer, you must be able to multi-task, as well as offer support to your fellow mechanical marine engineers and naval architects and, designers...they will come to you for your vast knowledge of the electrical systems on the project vessels. A more junior candidate may be better suited to the Vancouver (Burnaby) location where the team is able to collaborate under the leadership of the current Senior Electrical Engineer.


The Senior Electrical Marine Engineer will possess the ability to:

•   Design marine systems using AutoCAD and other specific electrical engineering software’s.

•   Develop single line diagrams and distribution plans

•   Perform load analyses and fault current analysis on whole ship design and component installations in existing configurations.

•   Develop electrical ship propulsion design with various modes of energy creation and storage systems utilizing high voltage AC and DC systems.

•   Develop routing and interconnections diagrams, Lighting design

•   Write and review specifications for refit or new vessel designs.

•   Prepare technical specifications and tender packages for equipment including medium and low voltage switchgear, low voltage motor control centers, low voltage electrical equipment.

•   Collaborate with naval architects, mechanical engineers, and other stakeholders to integrate electrical systems into overall vessel designs.


Technical Expertise:

•   Advanced Electrical Engineering Knowledge: In-depth understanding of electrical systems and components used in marine environments, including power generation, distribution, and control systems.

•   Technical Writing: Exceptional ability to produce clear, concise, and detailed technical specifications, procedures, and reports.

•   Software Proficiency: Strong working knowledge of AutoCAD for designing electrical systems and components, as well as proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite for documentation and communication.
