Job Description
The Detail Designer II is responsible for completing Hull Outfitting and Interior Outfitting design assignments on new construction and repair projects, with moderate to minimal supervision from the Lead or more experienced designers. Under the direction of the Manager, Outfitting Detail Design, and the coordination of the team Lead, the Detail Designer II participates in all phases of new construction design projects. The designer develops and delivers discipline-specific system 3D Model and Manufacturing Information drawings, by assisting the lead or senior designer to take technically feasible integration decisions and/or by collaborating with the System Responsible Engineer to resolve design issues.
Duties/Accountabilities:
• Creates and updates, with moderate to minimal support, the 3D design model content in assigned areas of Hull Outfitting and Interior Outfitting design within project schedule and budget, and in line with the design input: basic and functional design documents, class society rules and regulations, flag rules and company and international standards.
• Develops, with moderate to minimal support, design drawings for icebreaking, naval replenishment and different support or multipurpose vessels to achieve customer approval and Classification Society, flag regulatory compliance.
• Participates at design reviews of functional packages or vessel areas to ensure functional design requirements are met.
• Supports the Lead by providing guidance to other less experienced designers or subcontractors in the Hull Outfitting and Interior Outfitting engineering/design area.
• Uses the appropriate design methods and tools provided by the supervisor and appropriately self-checks the work performed at intermediate development stages and upon activity completion.
• Develops material specifications and bills of material in accordance with our material strategies and customer requirements.
• Supports the company design standards development and improvement process.
• Provides technical support to production and ensures the resulting deliverable packages for manufacturing are in alignment with our standards and processes.

• Performs additional duties as required.
Education and Experience:
• Technical Diploma or Associate’s degree in Mechanical Systems Engineering or Design.
• 2+ years of experience in Detailed Design from manufacturing/heavy industries environment working on projects involving diverse partners.
• Previous shipyard experience is highly desired and marine industry experience is preferred.
• Experience working with a diverse integrated project team is considered an asset.
Skills, Knowledge and Required Competencies:
• Knowledge of marine Hull Outfitting and Interior Outfitting design, including detailed knowledge of hull outfitting and interior outfitting systems and production best practices.
• Knowledge of the following ship types is considered a strong asset: icebreakers, research vessels, multi-purpose vessels, fishing vessels, naval auxiliary vessels.
• Knowledge of icebreaker specific Hull Outfitting and Interior Outfitting systems or experience with icebreakers vessels design and/or construction would be an asset.
• Demonstrated ability to propose and develop solutions to sophisticated technical problems with moderate to minimal support.
• Above average analytical skills to gather and analyze/synthesize data, confirming its accuracy and adequacy as an integral part of the collective analysis/synthesis process.
• Good technical writing skills including the ability to produce and present clear, detailed written technical specifications, procedures, and reports.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD is required.
• Experience with Cadmatic is preferred and would be an advantage.
• Good organizational skills, above average communication skills including written, verbal, listening and presentation.
• Availability and willingness to travel to such locations and with such frequency as the employer determines is necessary or desirable to meet its business needs.
• Committed to a high standard of safety and able to follow all safety laws, regulations and all the employer's safety policies and rules.
• Exercise good judgments and make decisions in a manner consistent with the job functions.
• PC proficiency required. Working knowledge of basic Microsoft Office software suite (Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Teams etc.).
