Job Description

The Electronics Engineer will join the navigation, internal/external communication or mission electronics systems teams on new construction projects at our clients Shipyards. Under the direction of the Senior Systems Engineer at our clients Shipyards the Electronics Engineer participates in all phases of new construction design projects including requirements decomposition, design, analysis, material specification and selection, engineering execution, and engineering close-out activities. This role is also responsible for liaison with internal and external partner design teams to ensure that the Electronics design is produced in accordance with the current equipment information and the production design standards and procedures.


Duties/Accountabilities

•  Provides engineering and design expertise in assigned areas of Electronics by preparing design packages to ensure contract design requirements are met.

•  Develops and/or reviews design documents for Canadian Coast Guard vessels in order to achieve customer, Classification Society and regulatory approval.

•  Develops material specifications and bills of material in accordance with our client material strategies and customer requirements.

•  Provide technical direction to suppliers and subcontractors related to the Electronics Systems design to achieve contract, cost and schedule performance.


Education and Skills

•  Degree in Electronics, Electrical Engineering or related discipline.

•  2 or more years of experience in a system engineering environment, ideally in the defense or shipbuilding industry.

•  Experience working with Classification societies (LR, DNV) design approval process.

•  Knowledgeable of Marine regulations such as IMO, Transport Canada requirements and other ship design safety regulations.

•  Experience with Navigation system verification test planning for Factory Acceptance Testing and trials onboard vessels and/or

•  Experience in developing shipborne communication systems from concept to build.

•  Experience in developing highly integrated electronics systems design comprising communication, navigation and mission systems.

•  Experience working with a diverse integrated project team is considered an asset.

•  EGBC registration as EIT or P.Eng required for ‘Engineer II’ title otherwise title will be ‘Specialist II’.

•  Able to obtain a Canadian Reliability security clearance.


Skills, Knowledge and Competencies

•  Analyze, define and maintain customer, electronic systems comprising communication, navigation, networking and Flag/IMO regulatory requirements in a system engineering life cycle tool for one or many communications networks.

•  Based on requirements, develop and design ship communication systems, which also satisfies various build, cost, schedule, logistics and other non-technical constraints

•  Analyze an integrated communication network design from various perspectives, such as reliability, security, buildability, maintainability, and more

•  Draft and maintain technical documentation and strict configuration control.

•  Evaluate existing third-party communication system designs and their integration, such as development of interface definitions, security assessment and more.

•  Support and develop technical interfaces to other groups within the company

•  Analytical skills to gather and analyze/synthesize data, confirming its accuracy and adequacy as an integral part of the collective analysis/synthesis process

•  Strong technical writing skills including the ability to produce and present clear, detailed written technical specifications, procedures, and reports

•  Solid understanding of CAD software.

•  Good organizational skills.

•  Committed to a high standard of safety and able to align with all safety laws and all of the employer's safety policies and rules

•  Exercise good judgments and make decisions in a manner consistent with the crucial job functions.
