What’s the opportunity?

The National Cancer Screening Register (NCSR) is a digital health platform that enables a single electronic record for each person in Australia participating in cervical and bowel screening programs.

We are seeking a Data Engineer to implement and maintain the Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) design, focusing on data transformation and Raw Data Extracts (RDE). You will ensure ETL outputs meet business requirements, optimise data for analytics, coordinate new data ingestion, and support BI Developer activities while driving continuous operational improvements.

This is a 24 month full-time fixed term contract.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Responsible for the technical implementation of the EDW design for Landing and Transformation tables, and for Raw Data Extracts (RDE).
  • Responsible for delivery of ETL and RDE outputs, in line with business requirements and overall strategy / guidelines.
  • Maintain a feedback loop with developers and technical platform owners, to understand risks and issues, upcoming changes, any capacity restraints, and progress of existing requests.
  • Work with Data Modeller to optimise data transformation for analytics.
  • Identify and recommend value adding data sets to be ingested into the EDW.
  • Coordinate and support ingestion of new data sources with the EDW platforms team, under the guidance of the Data Architect.
  • Prioritise data requests working with the Design & Engineering Software team
  • Design, Build, Test and Maintain EDW Landing and Transformation tables, and RDE data models & ETL.
  • Ensure overnight ETL completes for EDW on a day-to-day basis.
  • Deliver RDE requests and make available for consumption by stakeholders.
  • Update and maintain documentation for RDE EDW design and data models and support the Data Architect with design documentation as required.
  • Develop and execute release plan to ensure successful rollout of reports into production and provide access to relevant users.
  • Support BI Developer activities as required, during peak periods.
  • Continuous improvement initiatives to ensure ongoing operational performance

About you:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology or another computer-based discipline.
  • Experience in data engineering, data ingestion, query optimisation, data segregation and ETL
  • Experience in designing and developing SQL stored procedures, views and data models in a MS SQL database environment.
  • Proven experience in managing, optimising, and maintaining Snowflake data warehouses.
  • Experience in T-SQL query performance tuning.
  • Extensive experience troubleshooting and solving complex technical problems.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Essential requirement: The candidate must meet the requirements to obtain an Australian Government Security Vetting Agency Baseline Security Clearance. Australian citizenship is essential for this application.
