What’s the opportunity?

The National Cancer Screening Register (NCSR) is a digital health platform that enables a single electronic record for each person in Australia participating in cervical and bowel screening programs.

We are seeking a highly skilled Data Engineer to play a key role in designing, implementing, and maintaining the Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW), with a special focus on Snowflake data warehousing, data transformation, and Raw Data Extracts (RDE). In this role, you’ll optimise ETL outputs to meet business needs, drive continuous operational improvements, and support BI Developers.

This is a 24-month, full-time fixed-term contract.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Take ownership of the technical implementation of the EDW design for both Landing and Transformation tables, and for Raw Data Extracts (RDE), using Snowflake.
  • Lead the development and optimisation of ETL processes on Snowflake, ensuring that data is transformed and ingested efficiently for business consumption and analytics.
  • Collaborate with Data Modellers to ensure optimal data transformations that support analytics and reporting.
  • Identify and manage new data sources for ingestion into the EDW on Snowflake, working closely with the Data Architect and platform teams.
  • Design, build, test, and maintain EDW Landing and Transformation tables in Snowflake.
  • Ensure reliable, overnight ETL processes for the Snowflake EDW are completed daily.
  • Maintain documentation for RDE EDW design and data models, supporting the Data Architect with comprehensive documentation.
  • Collaborate with BI Developers during peak periods to support the delivery of analytics.
  • Drive continuous improvements in Snowflake operational performance through innovative solutions.

About you:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field.
  • Proven expertise in Snowflake data warehousing, data engineering, and ETL optimisation.
  • Experience in data ingestion, query optimisation, and data segregation.
  • Strong background in designing and developing SQL stored procedures, views, and data models.
  • Proficiency in T-SQL query performance tuning and troubleshooting complex technical issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to optimise and maintain Snowflake data warehouses.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work closely with technical teams and business stakeholders.

Essential requirement:

The candidate must meet the requirements to obtain an Australian Government Security Vetting Agency Baseline Security Clearance. Australian citizenship is required for this application.
