What’s the opportunity?
This role is responsible for overseeing internal communications and building a high-performing team while driving Telstra Health’s communications and media strategy. The goal is to position the company as a leading and innovative digital health provider, strengthening market presence and generating high-quality opportunities while managing complex areas of work with autonomy, knowledge, influence and business acumen.
By effectively leading and developing a team of media and communications specialists, this role will enhance Telstra Health’s credibility, grow its reputation, and foster stakeholder engagement both domestically and internationally, including with government bodies.
Additionally, the role involves responding to media inquiries, engaging with industry publications, and collaborating with Telstra’s Media and Communications teams to advance strategic objectives, contributing to an improved digital health experience for all.
About the role:
The Corporate Affairs and Communications Manager is responsible for developing and executing effective internal and external communications. Responsible for performing an extensive range of complex technical and professional activities, this role will take a strategic approach to communications ensuring alignment with the Telstra Health business goals and objectives, prioritisation of stakeholder management (including government), and provision of technical expertise to drive organisational and team success.
In leading and coaching a diverse team, this role will require the application of best practice people management skills and the ability to develop and empower employees, driving a high-performance team culture. The key accountabilities of the Corporate Affairs and Communications Manager include:
Stakeholder Engagement and Relationship Management
With responsibility for influencing stakeholder attitudes, decisions, and actions for mutual benefit, the Corporate Affairs and Communications Manager will:
- Build and manage key government relationships at a senior level.
- Act as the organisation's support contact for relevant regulatory authorities and ensure there are robust and supportive relationships between Telstra Health and external stakeholders.
- Influences the organisation, customers and partners with expertise.
- Creates and facilitates collaborative ways of working with diverse stakeholders.
- Demonstrates and utilises impactful communication skills in all engagements with internal and external stakeholders.
People and Team Leadership
In managing integrated programs of work, the leadership, coaching and support of people and teams will be provided by:
- Improving organisational performance by developing the performance of individuals and workgroups to meet agreed objectives with measurable results.
- Providing authoritative advice and direction across the communications branch.
- Enhancing employee engagement and ways of working, empowering a diverse group of employees and supporting a high performing team culture.
- Leading the 1800RESPECT communications and media team and ensuring all contract deliverables are achieved.
- Effectively collaborating with other teams including the Marketing Team to promote team cohesion and integrated solutions.
- Leading the communication and an open flow of creative ideas between interested parties and the set-up of innovative networks and communities.
- Applies industry knowledge to define the standards that others will apply.
Corporate Affairs
The Corporate Affairs and Communication Manager will position Telstra Health as the credible and trustworthy leader in digital health solutions by managing public perception and strategic communications, including:
- Drafting speeches for the Managing Director and Functional Executives, white papers, articles, and other communications materials (in liaison with Telstra’s Communications team as required), to fulfil the brand strategy.
- Driving Telstra Health’s issues management response to issues which arise in the public domain.
- Driving and executing all internal communications across Telstra Health.
Communications
The Corporate Affairs and Communications Manager will lead the development and execution of comprehensive stakeholder management and communication strategies, ensuring effective engagement both internally and externally, including:
- Overseeing the media and communications team in crafting and implementing stakeholder management strategies and communication plans for various audiences.
- Developing and leading communications activities on complex change initiatives, including communication activities and content on transition and implementation activities.
- Facilitating the engagement of stakeholders in support of the delivery of services and change projects, including leading actions to facilitate and improve communications by demonstrating a strong commitment and proactive approach to building and maintaining strong relationships with government stakeholders.
- Providing guidance and raising awareness on communications for internal and external stakeholders to help leaders and employees demonstrate effective behaviours to deliver organisational change.
- Supervising digital platforms and associated content plans, communications and media, including for the 1800RESPECT website, social media and apps.
- Demonstrated experience in establishing and tracking measures of success for Corporate Affairs and Communications activity.
About you:
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, business or relevant field is required.
- Demonstrated leadership experience including leading people and culture and overseeing performance management within a communications environment.
- Deep expertise in media and communications leadership, with the ability to develop and implement a strategy that demonstrates success in translating leads to pipeline.
- Experience in the initiation and development of influential relationships and delivering outcomes for internal and external customers, the media, partners at senior management level, including industry leaders and government.
- Communicates authoritatively at all levels across the organisation to a variety of audiences articulating business objectives. and leads on collaboration with a diverse range of stakeholders.
- Proven capability in leading and developing a successful media and communications team, developing a great team culture and coaching people to optimise individual and team capability.
- Demonstrated ability to build relationships with strategic and operational government stakeholders.
- Issues management – experience with leading the real-time response to emerging issues, including stakeholder management, media relations and communications (ideally with global experience).
- Demonstrated experience in establishing and tracking attainment of Corporate Affairs and Communications goals and KPIs.
Desirable:
- Minimum of 8 years' experience in successfully delivering a range of internal and external communications activities aligned to a well-developed brand (ideally with global experience) is highly regarded.
