What will you be doing?
The Infrastructure Planner will assist the Systems & Asset Planning team with the creation, planning and delivery of products and services to Sydney Water’s customers. This role plays an essential part in ensuring optimum service levels are provided at all times to our customers.
Plans set the servicing direction to support growth in line with the NSW Government’s overarching vision, and its plans for that specific region or precinct. These plans present a 30-year strategic pathway and a 5-year investment plan for integrated water services and outputs of these plans are developed in collaboration and consultation with external stakeholders, including government agencies and local councils. These plans are the basis of our publicly available Growth Servicing Plans.
You will:
- Undertake, with supervision and guidance, the development of planning activities including preparing guidelines tenders, plans and business cases and contribute to high quality planning outputs and solutions;
- Realise within plans, integration opportunities across systems, drivers, customers, catchments, resources, materials, products and services:
- Provide urban water management expertise in some specific areas (stormwater, water, wastewater, etc) that contributes to developing plans:
- Provide inputs to components of plans as they are developed and reviewed:
- Complete allocated planning tasks, within required timeframes and compliant with planning procedures

Department Overview: Sydney Water’s Systems and Asset Planning (S&AP) group leads the development of short, medium and long-term integrated plans for assets, systems and regions. Key customers and stakeholders include local government, regulators, customer and community groups, developers and planning bodies.
The S&AP group - comprising of Planning, Concept Design and Program Management - is focused on ensuring Sydney Water delivers the right assets at the right time via the management and delivery of Regional and Precinct plans, Integrated Systems plans, and Feasible Conceptual Designs.
Who are we looking for?
- Tertiary qualification in Business, Engineering, Infrastructure Management, Planning, Science or a related discipline
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience, with demonstrated experience and skills in the development and management of integrated approaches to urban water service and infrastructure planning.
- Understanding and experience with major water or other similar utility
- Understanding of Strategic Asset Management concepts and evolving infrastructure planning techniques
- Demonstrated experience in written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills internal and external to the organisation.
