An exciting opportunity has become available for a Field Sampling Team Leader to join the Customer Experience team within Sydney Water. 

This role is directly responsible for the implantation of the environmental improvement plan and other license compliance sampling projects. You will be responsible for 15 direct reports, consisting of 1 Project Leader and 14 sampling officers.

Key tasks

  • Deliver field sampling services for approved monitoring programs and to support the delivery of R&D needs, in accordance with Sydney Water's monitoring processes
  • Manage the daily operations of the field sampling team ensuring the quality of samples and analysis, and the timely delivery of results to clients
  • Assist in the development of an efficient monitoring service to clients
  • Ensure compliance with Sydney Water policies & procedures at all times
  • Liaise with customers to ensure effective project delivery
  • Contribute to achieving the commercial targets of FST
  • Oversee the scheduling of field personnel to provide effective sampling services; prepare and assign operational schedules for individuals and groups based on need
  • Participate in creating a training and development plan for your direct reports, to maintain a well-trained, cohesive and motivated functional team who provide quality service
  • Ensure direct reports understand their environmental responsibilities when conducting field work
  • Assist in the development of a safety culture
  • Ensure actions identified through audits and inspections are implemented
  • Ensure compliance with environmental legislation and with Environmental Management System certification requirements
  • Ensure all your direct reports are competent and aware of their environmental compliance requirements

Experience and Qualifications:  

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications, or experience deemed equivalent.  
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience of water quality issues in either wastewater, environmental waters or drinking water, including the techniques, equipment and methodologies involved in the collection of water quality samples and in-situ measurements.  
  • Demonstrated experience in the application of ISO 9001, ISO 17025 and NATA accreditation, including the demonstrated ability to obtain NATA signatory status. 
  • Demonstrated communication skills and experience liaising with clients, colleagues and senior management and demonstrated experience in the supervision of staff. 
  • Excellent people management skills
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills across a range of stakeholders
  • Demonstrated change management skills
  • Ability to perform and respond to a highly reactive work environment.
  • Experience mentoring and developing staff
