At Sydney Water we’re seek an Engineering Team Manager to provide functional leadership to our diverse team of up to 15 engineering experts.

You’ll ensure we meet our obligations with optimal cost, risk, and performance outcomes across the asset lifecycle, including creation, maintenance, and renewals. You will drive innovation while balancing technical capability with cost, risk, and performance objectives to achieve outstanding results for Sydney Water.

Your day-to-day will include:

Technical Leadership: Lead the application of core engineering expertise across design, construction, and maintenance to achieve asset value chain outcomes within time, cost, and performance parameters.

Compliance Management: Direct and control activities to ensure compliance with statutory engineering requirements for relevant asset classes.

Decision Making: Use expert knowledge to balance cost, risk, and outcomes, achieving efficient and sustainable engineering solutions.

Stakeholder Management: Address stakeholder expectations and differentiate needs from wants, using technical expertise and communication skills to negotiate and influence positive outcomes.

Continuous Improvement: Identify and lead opportunities for engineering process improvements and drive innovation for Sydney Water.

Asset Management Contribution: Support enhancements to the Asset Management System and ensure engineering assurance across Sydney Water.

Outcome Delivery: Drive technically and commercially acceptable outcomes for capital delivery and asset maintenance.

Essential Requirements

  • Bachelor of Engineering (Washington Accord/Engineers Australia recognized) with 10+ years in water or related industry.
  • Proven leadership of engineering teams and project delivery.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and technical report writing skills.
  • Experience in managing high/medium risk projects and staying current with technological advancements.
  • Proficient in engineering principles, regulatory requirements, and relevant legislation (e.g., Sydney Water Act, EP&A Act).
  • Intermediate skills in facilitating meetings and workshops.
  • Effective stakeholder negotiation and risk management skills.
