About the role
Reporting to the Laboratory Manager you will:
- Perform routine and non-routine analyses of freshwater and marine samples
- Use a range of equipment in accordance with procedures to meet quality, customer time expectations and regulatory and operational requirements.
Daily duties include laboratory analysis of samples, data entry, quality control checks and calibrations.
- Ability and willingness to learn new tasks, methods, instruments and equipment as appropriate
- Complete tasks on time to expected quality and at the expected cost
- Work cooperatively with team members to ensure customer requirements are met and operations are efficient
- Demonstrated competence with computer software packages used within a laboratory or field sampling environment (e.g. lab information system, scheduling software, Microsoft Office).
- Identify and report potential opportunities to optimise assets, equipment, systems and processes
- Undertake problem solving and troubleshooting within the Laboratory and assist team members with problem resolution
- Carry out internal audits or participate as auditee as required and in accordance with training provided
- Knowledge of quality assurance requirements for analysis of water and waste water products, including NATA ISO 17025 accreditation and ISO 9000 quality system requirements.
- Work safely, undertake risk assessments and report hazards and incidents
About you
This is a laboratory-based role requiring a team member who can undertake analysis of water samples with the following skills:
- Demonstrated knowledge of quality assurance systems including NATA accreditation and ISO 9000 and ISO 17025 quality requirements
- Demonstrated communication skills including ability to liaise effectively and write clear and concise reports using software packages such as Word, Excel
- Possess physical fitness to carry out microscopic analysis for prolonged time periods.
Applicants interested in our Phycology team will ideally demonstrate:
- Previous experience in microscopy, spectrophotometry and PCR techniques
- Experience in algal identification
- A relevant tertiary qualification (Degree and/or Certificate in Biology) or demonstrated several years’ experience within a related science discipline
- Ability to work as part of a team or with minimum guidelines to achieve business goals
- Experience conducting routine laboratory work (microscopy)
Applicants interested in our Trace Analysis and Sample Management Team will ideally demonstrate:
- Relevant tertiary qualification (Degree and/or equivalent Certificate in Science) and demonstrated experience within a related scientific discipline
- Greater than 5 years’ experience working independently in a laboratory
- Be an approved signatory across a variety of methods
- Operate complex scientific instrumentation such as LCMSMS or GCMSMS and undertake various laboratory preparatory functions.
