About the role
As Lead Planner within Integrated Planning, you will be working across Sydney Water to develop investment plans in line with the Long-Term Capital Operating Plan. The purpose of this role is to develop integrated, adaptive and optimised long-term plans for assets that achieve the organisations objectives, priorities and obligations.
Building on the endorsement of asset creation process, you will be ensuring processes and requirements are fit for purpose to adequately provide expertise and technical knowledge in water cycle management, planning that contributes in the development of the best planning approaches.
Other responsibilities will include (but are not limited to):
- Realise within plans, integration opportunities across systems, drivers, customers, catchments, resources, materials, products and services
- Forecast long term infrastructure investment totex and resource needs
- Provide expertise and technical knowledge in integrated water cycle management planning that contributes to planning outcomes and the development of best-practice planning approaches
- Effectively present planning insights, advocate a point of view, addresses difficult questions and resolves planning related conflict in a positive, non-confrontational manner and facilitate complex planning related meetings and discussions
- Participate in strategic planning and business direction decision making within planning team
- Propose and facilitate innovative planning initiatives and contribute to business improvement strategies and change in the workplace
- Represent SW at Water Industry peak bodies and outwardly promote the achievements of Sydney Water

Department Overview: Systems and Asset Planning (S&AP) leads the development of short, medium and long-term integrated plans for assets, systems and regions. Key customers and stakeholders include local government, regulators, customer and community groups, developers and planning bodies.
The group - comprising of Planning, Concept Design and Program Management - is focused on ensuring Sydney Water delivers the right assets at the right time.
About You
- Tertiary qualification in Business, Engineering, Infrastructure Management, Planning, Science or a related discipline and about 10-15 years’ experience, with demonstrated experience and skills in the development and management of integrated approaches to urban water service and infrastructure planning
- Experience effectively leading and taking accountability for complex planning programs and/or projects, including scoping and delivery of complex projects with several other project interfaces or other interrelated issues
- Demonstrated written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills both internal and external to the organisation, with the ability to establish credibility
- Demonstrated successful experience dealing with stakeholder groups, internal and external
- Experience in coaching, mentoring and technical skill development
- Expert knowledge and experience of integrated and adaptive planning approaches, including scenario planning
- Experience in successful project delivery
- Experience in successful business case development is desirable
- Experience in project management is desirable
