About the role 

As a Senior Treatment Planner, you will be responsible for the development of forward thinking, multi-driver responsive, customer focussed, integrated urban water servicing plans. This drives direction for water and wastewater assets that ultimately are converted into projects to achieve waterway outcomes. 

In a time where the direction and value of water is critical for Sydney and with the roll out of Sydney Water’s Long-Term Capital and Operating Plan (LTCOP) this role is critical in the shaping of these outcomes and understanding how we use water and manage our waterways across the city. In this role you will be responsible for the development of treatment planning activities and processes including preparing and communicating plans, concepts, servicing offer and business cases and ensure the quality of planning outputs and solutions.

Other responsibilities will include (but are not limited to):

  • Develop long-term strategies for water resource recovery facilities, water filtration plants, and Purified Recycled Water (PRW) for Drinking facilities
  • Forecast long term infrastructure investment totex and resource needs
  • Optimise treatment and system performance
  • Develop solutions to manage emerging contaminants of concern
  • Perform treatment plant capacity assessments, including analysing process data, to identify bottlenecks and performance issues; forecast treatment performance with growth and new compliance requirements
  • Investigate innovative solutions to provide more sustainable servicing to our customers including solutions to minimise Sydney Water's carbon footprint
  • Provide expertise and technical knowledge in integrated water cycle management planning that contributes to planning outcomes and the development of best-practice planning approaches

 About you 

  • You will need a Tertiary qualification in Engineering, Infrastructure Management, Planning, Science or a related discipline and a minimum of 6 - 8 years’ experience, with demonstrated experience and skills in the development and management of integrated approaches to urban wastewater and water treatment and infrastructure planning
  • A thorough understanding of:
  • wastewater treatment and biosolids production technologies, including advanced treatment processes to produce high quality effluent
  • drinking water treatment technologies including advanced treatment processes to produce PRW
  • Ability to analyse and assess treatment process performance and develop strategies to improve performance and/or increase capacity
  • Experience with development of adaptive plans to manage future uncertainty
  • Knowledge of effective stakeholder engagement processes and collaborative planning experience
  • Knowledge of risk, cost and performance drivers and ability to optimise these
  • Demonstrated experience in written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills at all levels both
  • Internal and external to the organisations, with the ability to establish a high degree of credibility
  • Demonstrated successful experience dealing regulators and stakeholder groups, internal and external
  • Demonstrated experience coaching, mentoring and technical skill development
  • Expert knowledge and experience of integrated water cycle management and water sensitive urban planning approaches
