An exciting opportunity has become available for a Maintenance Service Technician based in the North, West and Northwest region of Sydney to join the Customer Experience team within Sydney Water.

  • Permanent opportunity offering a base salary of $114,591.10 plus superannuation.
  • You will be working a 19-day month and 38-hour week. Includes overtime callouts, 26 hours standby allowance and afternoon shift 25% loading!
  • Must have a Qualified Electrical Trade licence.
  • This is an excellent opportunity to work as a hands-on Maintenance Service Technician providing first call response for electrical breakdowns and maintenance across the Sydney Water network.

About the role

The Maintenance Service Technician provides electrical first call breakdown response, statutory maintenance, and innovation to build asset reliability working with the network teams.

This field-based role involves significant driving from time to time due to the vastness of the area covered and the need to meet priority response times.

Work locations will include various Sydney Water remote unmanned sites, including water and wastewater pumping stations, reservoir sites, water gauges etc.          

Key tasks involve                                                                    

  • First response to electrical/mechanical/instrumentation faults in the network area of operations and provide asset reliability support to network teams
  • Site management during incidents
  • Condition assessment, avoid failure asset monitoring and reporting
  • Planning with network operations to manage safety, customer, and environmental risks
  • Real time detailed communications with internal stakeholders
  • A coordinated interface with Sydney Water’s delivery partners
  • Participate on an afternoon shift/standby roster (13:00 – 21:30)
  • Start and finish on the job in the field, with the use of field mobility technology (CLICK)
  • Prepared to travel and work in all areas of Sydney Water network operations

Sydney Water will provide you access to a vehicle, phone, training, and all equipment including PPE provided!

The role has an afternoon shift into standby component with a current frequency of 1 in 4 and is field based, starting and finishing in the field working in all weather conditions.

Who are we looking for?

The ideal candidate for this position must have a current Electrical Trades qualification with current industry experience and a current driver’s license with the flexibility to work afternoon shift as needed and travel to various sites within Sydney Water’s area of work.

With safety at the forefront, you have previous experience working alone with the ability to manage your workload to achieve outcomes.

  • Relevant Electrical trade qualifications, NSW Driver’s License and WHS General Construction card
  • Valid or ability to obtain: Confined Space certificate including maintaining fitness, LOTO & FIFM procedures, and working near heights.
  • Relevant knowledge: Variable Speed and AC Drives, PLC’s, process instrumentation, level measurement control equipment, industry software and general Microsoft applications
  • Highly desirable - proven current knowledge and experience in network asset maintenance and operations, SCADA telemetry
  • Ability to work in unfavourable weather conditions and comfortable working with water and wastewater.
  • Self-motivated and managed, with a positive attitude towards innovations, utilizing smart technology and adapting work practices to drive efficiency
  • Competent to work alone, and ability to perform under pressure when required
  • Excellent communications skills (both written & verbal)
  • Be comfortable working in the water and wastewater industry.
